Way of the Crane

I take it to mean that the crane work on and hone themselves, meaning they're expert courtiers.

Expert courtiers, duelists, artists, musicians, scouts... they strive to excel at anything they endeavor. So it would make sense that there would be excellent swordsmiths among the Crane.

Ashidaka swordsmiths, yo.

I think wordsmith is a metaphor, considering the Crane themselves are the sword.

As someone who has been in Rokugan since just barely before Gold Edition, I loved this piece. It captures a real essence of the clan for new members, while teasing us vets with art and excitement for the return of the game.

My biggest plus from the video and also the other day's story pdf...... I love the new stylized Crane mon. Very artistic for a clan known for beauty and artisans.

I think I'd rather see an article going through the Crane sense of perfection in the actual game through the cards rather than a video like this. Yes, fiction too.

I wonder if perfection is still a shurido tenet.

Funny you should mention that, my phone kept insisting that the word was wordsmith, and not swordsmiths. Silly gaijin contraption.

I approve your phone.

Shourido does not exist.

Please make a animated short with voice acting and showing various scenes with the main characters. Done well it would generate crazy hype. Flashing to a duel, then some words exchanged between courtiers, then a Lion yelling at his troops with the unicorn in the background charging towards the camp.

I like this a lot because it shows a lot of dedication to this game by FFG and inspires confidence in me they will support it properly.

Wohohohoho..have I got a surprise for you!

That was terrible. Give me my life back!

All I can say is that the Kakita had a vassal family, the Ashidaka, who forged some of the finest blades.

True, though it seemed that - as with so many other things - there were an awful lot of "this family forges the finest blades!" in 'old' Rokugan. The Kaiu, the Agasha, the Ashikada, the Tsi, etc. etc.

Which one? The FFG one, or the most beauuutiful samurai in the Empire?

If you mean the later, it's largely one of those 'you had to be there' things.

Also: "Bloodspeaker!"

Why is everyone assuming the voiceover is being done by someone pretending to do an Asian accent? Is it not possible that the voice actor is actually Asian and is using their normal accent?

The comment I was looking for. When I first saw this, I assumed it was the narrator's natural accent. It might be fake or it might be real, either way I thought it was a good trailer.

For reference, here is a youtube link to the the complete FMV cutscenes for the Japan faction from the 2008 game Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3.

You can compare the accent of this trailer's VA with none other than George Takei himself, starting from 1:00.

I'm just a little disappointed we didn't have the option for Japanese Rokugani audio with English subtitles!

I feel that comparison kind of works against the point you're making, though. Takei wasn't speaking in his natural voice, he was doing an intentionally over the top Japanese accent that probably would have been offensive outside the context of an intentionally over the top comedic game.

This video was exactly what I had in mind... "BLAAAAADSPEEEKAAAH!!!" Thanks for the necromancy.

"...at any cost."

Sounds like Crab or Scorpion for me.

While the accent does sound just a little over the top, to me the it sounds similar to ken watanabe's.

I prefer to speak of excellence as the goal to achieve for the Crane, not perfection.

It seems i'm not the only one who was reminded of the computer game Total war.
