Any good tutorials for the latest X Wing module?
Vassal tutorials
I'm muddling through the interface and it seems pretty straightforward. I'd love to find an opponent to help me learn the how Vassal works better.
Drop me a PM if anyone is interested.
This hands-on step by step guide still holds up, but is a bit deprecated.
Good news though, the parts that are deprecated are largely automated nowadays: squad spawning, overlap management, etc.

Play a game or two against yourself to make sure you are familiar with the movement shortcuts. Then just log on and click on the looking for game button. Tell proposed your opponent that you are just learning the program. I'm confident that you will find an opponent that is more than happy to step you through it. The vassal community is great. They'll get you up to speed in no time. A couple points:
- Pay attention to your dials! I frequently moved them back to the map while they were revealed when I first started.
- Tell your opponent when you are done with a thing. Ship activation, dice modification, setting dials, everything. Type "set" to let your opponent know you are done.
- Don't move on until your opponent let's you know they are done.
I've never been able to get vassal to install on winblows 10. Oh well someday I'll see the promised land.
I'm willing to play against brand new VASSAL players, and be patient, and teach. I need a day's notice, at least, but I can do it most weeknights at 6:30 PM Pacific time. PM me if you want to set something up.
With the new module, you really will only need one game under your belt before you'll be comfortable. Back in the old days ... it was a much steeper learning curve. So remember: if you like VASSAL and end up using it, familiarize yourself with mu0n's tip-jar!
@GrogEgrog - VASSAL is all but OS-agnostic. I run Windows 10, and it installs and runs just fine.

Awesome! I'll hit you up.

Start here and get the latest Java JRE (Java Runtime Environment) first:

I must say,
I've gotten 3 games in so far and it's been a lot easier than I thought it would be.
Also all of my opponents so far have been really great. Mellow, patient and good humored.
I recommend people take the plunge!
I've been considering it. I may join and pm you for some games.

Just wondering but how is matches organized? Do you all know each other before hand or is there a discord server?
There's a main room where players congregate and you can pm anyone there and ask if they want a game.
I've lost count of how many new players I've guided through our game on vassal over the years.
Hopefully I was helpful.

Wasn't the issue but led me to the issue and I appreciate it! Now to figure this out.

You can also tag yourself as looking for a game to let people know that you... are.
You do this by hitting the blue exclamation mark button. If you see someone with a blue exclamation mark on their name they're probably looking for a game.
