Newb rookie - what to buy next?

By direweasel, in X-Wing Squad Lists

OK, some background...

First, Hi! New to forum, somewhat new to the game. Been collecting since Christmas, not into tourneys or super high power squadron building. I fly casual. :)

I mostly play with the wife and kids, and some friends. I have a decent start on a Rebel and Imperial force, it's important for me to have 2 sides so I can play against my kids and that sort of thing. So far, my collection consists of:

  • New Hope Starter
  • Force Awakens Starter
  • Imperial Aces
  • Rebel Aces
  • Millenium Falcon (original trilogy)
  • X Wing
  • Y Wing
  • E Wing
  • A Wing x 2
  • TIE Fighter
  • TIE Advanced
  • TIE Interceptor
  • TIE Bomber

So as you can see, mostly original Trilogy stuff. I have kind of been buying stuff randomly without any actual plan, just kind of what I like. I played the "X Wing" PC game a ton in college, and loved flying A-Wings, so that's why I am heavy on those.

So bottom line is that I don't really know where I should go next. I enjoyed Rogue One a lot, so I think the U-Wings and TIE Strikers are cool, and the Strikers seem pretty good in-game, but honestly, I don't know that because I'm a noob and I lose plenty of games to other noobs, so I don't trust myself to know what's "good" and what's not. I've got the rules of the game down pretty well, and tend to have a decent mind for strategy in other games (chess, blood bowl, axis and allies, etc), so I'm sure I can pick this up too.

Anyway, enough rambling. I'd love to have input from the hive mind around here as to what to buy next. I'm looking to have fun, I want to try to maintain some balance between Imperials and Rebels, I have a preference towards original trilogy over new but would consider new. Not solely focused on what is the most powerful, although it isn't irrelevant either. Oh, and not terribly interested in the huge ships. If it's much bigger than the Falcon, I probably won't want it.

Any and all input is welcome. Thanks in advance! :)

The heroes of the resistance pack is a pretty good bang for your buck. Lots of great cards and Rey and Poe (ps9) can be super fun to fly.

Maybe these:

- Imperial Veterans

- U-Wing

- Tie Striker

- Slave I

- Lambda Shuttle

I appreciate the response. I was actually looking at that one...the reason I held off was because I already had a Poe and a Falcon. But you think there's enough new material there to make it worth it?

Thanks :)

Well Rey is my favorite pilot to fly right now so I'm biased towards HotR. And there are also other cool T70 pilots in there like Snap and Jess. But if you're looking for different ships, I would suggest the ARC-170 or the Ghost. Both are fun to fly.

Fair enough - and I did notice that somebody is talking about a "double falcon" list, so I suppose you could use both at the same time. That seems like it could be fairly potent. So I will definitely keep it in mind as a possibility.

Thanks again! :)
