Time to test the famous POE/MAZ. This deck is insane.
I played against it and it is brutal! I was eating thermal detonators and max blast damage from the Falcon & the U-wing. By turn 3 it's pretty much over.

Yeah it is an insane deck man- you have to control poes dice- even when they are blank- or you lose. This match was over turn 2...
Yeah this deck is no fun to play against. If you don't win by turn 3, you don't win (at least in my experience). You usually lose a character in round 2.
What's a good way to counter this deck? Just remove Poe die as often as you can?
Kill Poe.
Rey/Han with Force Speed might be quick enough?
Seen some insane action chains in that deck since the introduction of Force Speed.
Access to Yellow for Electroshock and Loth-Cat and Mouse. Best cards for removing those Poe specials.
If Rey dies Han is still a big damage dealer and can have second chance to survive a bit.
That 12 health of Poe's, annoying.

Yeah- I want to build a han/Rey deck and see how it is against poe/maz. Speed wise it's got to be the closest thing- or palpatine.

Agreed- very frustrating to play against and yes- any and every chance to remove a poe die, you must do it!
Unless it packs Planetary Uprising (and plays them before the end of round 3) the amount of damage that Poe/Maz may dish out is big but it doesn't not grow turn after turn.
Any other deck that relies on upgrades on his charaters will see its damage outpust constantly growing (and reaching its top on the 3rd round usually)
You need to reach the 3rd round with both characters alive (but NOT with the same amount of remaining life points) OR with your only character facing his only character (Hopefully Maz e without any vehicle into play).
Poe/Maz is quite strong BUT is a deck that has actually 12 life points.
Target Maz on the first round ONLY if you can kill her on the very same turn (it is not that difficult for some deck with only 8 lp)
To me the secret is to kill Maz first. Once she is gone, Poe is only really hitting his special on a claim or a lucky roll, but it is far from guaranteed.
Villian counters this better with feel your anger, isolation, he doesn't like you, fore illusion, force choke.
For me the answer is Palp. Palp can usually drop Maz round one if you have a few key cards in opening hand.
Most other decks will suffer as they take 2-3 turns to ramp into good damage and do not have enough health to survive the onslaught.
Another deck that can meet it head on is EKylo, EYoung Vader. Both of these characters benefit from the throne room battlefield, even if you win/lose the roll off.
Kylo's special will also punish them for having a hand full of high cost cards. Add a few shuttles, force illusion and rise again to hold out.

This.....
Kylo's special is great but it comes down to the luck of the draw both ways; am I going to get that big card out of your hand before you can use it? Rise again is essential for staying power and will sometimes give you the extra turn to finish them. The longer you can extend the game the better in most cases.
I am also looking into yellow to get rid of their hand jyn erso's second chance ammo belt and rebel combo isn't a bad start there but who to pair her with?

Ackbar works pretty well, also has a discard side and that double focus really helps.
The Best Defense is the ultimate Poe control card. Both die removed with one card. Just have to hope Poe doesn't pop Hit and Run or your die control doesn't even matter.
I've been countering with a Han/Rey Force Speed and shield up build. Works well as Poe doesn't have great anti-shield. It's been winning more than losing against it. But, both those decks are not fun to play against, so just further confirms that there is something fundamentally wrong with the game as it is right now.
Deck doesn't seem very hard to play. Put Fast Hands on Poe, roll him out, resolve a special if you can, pitch a card to it. Roll out Maz, resolve her focus to change whichever of Poe's die didn't roll a special, resolve and pitch a card to it. I discarded a U-Wing and a Thermal Detonator, your characters have 5 damage each. Claim to trigger Uprising, then do it again next turn. Even worse when it starts off with a Hit & Run on Poe.
I'm probably missing something, but that's pretty much it, right? At least as far as the optimal sequence goes.
That's pretty much the deck. It destroys three and four character decks and plays faster than most two character decks. It can certainly be beat, but it's super consistent and what I think will be the gold standard of top tier decks.
Will this meta didn't take long to shake down to a single deck. Sadly a pricey deck too. This game is now
play
pay to win.
Pricey indeed. Versions I see run 12 to 14 Legendaries. Makes Blue Villain seem cheap.

Aren't most games play to win?
In all seriousness though, all collectable games are pay to win in the sense that spending more money gives you more options, which in turn makes you more likely to win.
Edited by KrisWall@KrisWall This is true. However there were a few decks that weren't crazy intensive on the legendary cards. This deck is just silly with all the pricey legendaries and the power it offers.
Kind of seems like the opposite of Jango/Veers, which was oppressive for most of the early meta, in terms of being pricey. That deck had no legendaries.

Yeah, I agree. Poe, Thermal Detonator, and Millenium Falcon are all cards that I still don't own because I didn't pull 'em and I don't feel like spending enourmous wads of cash on singles. At least U-Wings are pretty common as far as legendaries go and Maz is pretty common for rares. After opening 3 boxes of SoR, I have 2x Maz, 2x U-Wing, and 2x Planetary Uprising. Maybe I'll get the Poe, Detonators, and Falcon when the Awakenings reprint hits and check out this deck. Until then, I'll just try and beef up my Jango/Veers or Leia/Mothma...

Got a list for that Leia/Mothma deck? I tried a build yesterday but got lit up on TTS.

He's calling you out because you said play to win when you meant to say pay to win.
I didn't notice the typo. play, pay yeah, you know what I mean.
I've been playing a melee Vader/Raider: Fast Hands, Force Speed, Vibroknives, Makashii Training, and 1 Kylo Saber and I've gone 50/50 against a fully tricked out Poe/Maz. Throw in a Sabotage to take away one Planetary Uprising. Pick Maz's Castle to dig for Rise Again.

No, sadly, due to Luminara/Rey being so good, I haven't tried it yet. I'd assume It's a Trap, Hit and Run, Field Medic, Planetary Uprising, All In, and any other red events paired with lots of red dice upgrades that do ranged damage.
I did try Mothma and two Hired Guns - that deck isn't probably competitive, but it is fun! Mothma's copious amounts of focus make Smuggling Freighter worth it, and Second Chance, Lone Operative, Ammo Belt, Cheat, and Rebel make the list have more than 80 health for your opponent to chew through!
