Waiqar Executioner

By backupsidekick, in Runewars Rules Questions

The executioner figure upgrade from the infantry command indicates that on a skill icon you "choose a wounded figure in an enemy engaged with you and remove it." http://runewars.wikia.com/wiki/Executioner

Originally I had thought that this meant you could wound Kari, then use the skill to remove her, insta-kill. You could also do this with the Rune Golems, wound them then insta-kill them. That seems rather strong for the unit's cost and leads me to believe this is supposed to work only on figure upgrades within a unit, rather than on any figure. I've been going through the rules reference and can't find anything to confirm this. Section 38 references figure upgrades, but the card does not specify figure upgrades, just figures. section 87 describes a "unit" and uses the same word "figure" to describe the individual miniatures that go into each tray, which bring me back to my original thought of how this works. I would love to hear how I am interpreting this wrong and missing a key rule, I just can't find rules to back it up currently. Maybe I am right and you can insta-kill Kari with a white modifier? I mean at that point, line up a move action that will engage a wounded Kari or Rune Golem, collide with them and get a panic token, but then use the white modifier to kill them. Very much worth the panic token.

6 is pretty expensive for an upgrade. Your original interpretation is correct. Wound Kari, engage her with this unit, and then use your skill modifier to defeat her.

This is meant to just straight up kill the wounded figure and, yes, that would include heroes like Kari whether they're included as a figuring upgrade or not. Thing is, it's pretty easy for Kari Wraithstalker hero to just dodge around reanimates since they are rather slow and lumbering. The other point here is that Runegolems can counterplay this using their stun option. That does make it so they won't be attacking that turn but if there are 2 blue runes out then you play 2 stun tokens and attack the next turn. The other thing to consider is that if a runegolem is wounded, then it's already half-dead so it's not nearly as much value to use executioner on a golem as it is to use it on a hero.

Executioner is extremely powerful in the right situation, but it seems reasonable that you can play around it.

Wow I had this completely wrong then. My interpretation was a figure, which is a unit upgrade in a unit, I see I had it wrong. Total auto include now!

Hmmm. Ok. I thought I was trying to read into this to be more powerful than it was meant to be. Glad to hear that as my undying will likely have an executioner on board. If nothing more than just a threat against Kari trying to engage without thinking.

It's powerful, but a single accuracy + mortal strike or accuracy + 3 damage will remove it from your unit. It seems high-risk/high-reward, to me, which is right where it should be.

I might have posted this elsewhere, but I'm worried about most of these new single figure upgrades surviving. A lot only have 1-2 defense which is easy to overcome with an accuracy result. With more ranged and other blue die rolling attacks coming I'm a little hesitant to consider them. I know the more generic banner/hero/musician upgrades that don't use figures will last.

I'd almost prefer they had little or no defense but 2+ health so they could at least soak up one stray accuracy result.

Even if I wind up not using the upgrades that often, I'll likely swap out a few figures just for cosmetics/fun. My Spearmen are just crying out for the banners and musicians :)

Kari + Fortuna's Dice.

Order a shoot, exhaust the Fortuna's to dictate one die to be an accuracy.

Since Rally is on Keri's right dial, you could actually shoot, tap card, then rally. You could always dial up a double hit if you wanted more damage and less sniper. It's a really decent combo for 38 points.

Yeh, was used to great effect in the latest Runecasters video. It was literally taking off a tray a turn automatically.

The only counter at range that I can think of is to multiple blight her each turn so she loses both dice before the Rally takes effect.

There's always the universal counter though.....Kill her

That seems to be the counter against me when I'm playing Daqan. He always comes after my Kari, while I'm always going after his archers.
