Red Death

By BanthaFather, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey guys,

Been theory crafting, and had an idea. Just picked up Imp aces and vets, and thought I'd try to run this:

Red Death (98)

"Deathfire" [Extra Munitions, Concussion Missiles, Cluster Mines, Guidance Chips] (30)
Glaive Squadron Pilot [Tractor beam, Veteran Instincts, TIE/D] (36)
Carnor Jax [Lone Wolf, Royal Guard TIE, Hull Upgrade, Shield Upgrade] (34)

The defender and Carnor are easy first targets for the opponent, but they are really there to help the bomber. The Defender can tractor enemies into bombs or correct range, or move a ship into range one of Carnor. I know I should be taking autothrusters on the interceptor, but with more health I can feel more comfortable getting in the enemies face. Lone Wolf helps with attack and defense. A 5 health Interceptor who can modify dice and strip actions sounds like a cool late-game option.

The idea is to run the Defender with Deathfire until I get the bombs off, and then have the Defender pair up with Carnor for late game.

Thoughts?

First, and I could be wrong, but I don't think you can take the same upgrade twice on the same ship. Second, I would trim Deathfire back a tad. with all that ordinance he will bleed MOV and likely be a first target so that you are wasting points. If you really like carnor, I say go for it, but I might try PTL and targeting computer and also upgrade your defender to Vess. The attached list is one I fly that is similar and have had good success with.

"Deathfire" (28) - TIE Bomber - Homing Missiles (5), Cluster Mines (4), Extra Munitions (2), Long-Range Scanners (0)

Colonel Vessery (36) - TIE Defender - Trick Shot (0), Tractor Beam (1), TIE/D (0)

Countess Ryad (36) - TIE Defender - Push The Limit (3), TIE/x7 (-2), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

Deathfire becomes a "Imp Biggs" here because any alpha strike from your opponent is likely to target him so you can't fire yours. The goal for Deathfire is to hang around just long enough to get at least 2 ordinance hits. and also give Vess a TL to work with. Ryad usually splits her TL from Deathfire so you have 2 choices for Vess to shoot.

Ah... That list is what's up, man.

Unfortunately I only have the one Defender from the veteran's pack. What third ship would you suggest instead of the second defender?

@JSwindy , You're right about the double upgrades. *facepalm* I should really read the upgrade cards--it's right there on Royal Guard Tie: "two different modifications"...

I edited the OP with the change to include Shield Upgrade and removed plasma from Deathfire.

Still looking for a fix or replacement, for Carnor, and a pilot for the defender.

Well, not taking the time to play with the points, could you keep carnor and ace up the other 2?? Maybe Tomax with crack shot and the PS8/9 (not sure witch) Defender with D and tractor???

Other favorites of mine that tend to hold up a little better than carnor and are stronger in the late game are OL and Inqy

I can't take full credit on this one I stole it from "Karhedron" Though he uses x7 on both defenders

Maybe Vader, Carnor, Deathfire would be a better idea. Carnor could help Vader's crits get through.
