What if you scale it down a bit? Instead of adding results, allow him to change one blank result to a focus result. That way, you won't end up adding dice to the pool.

Yeah, that's an option. I also really like the treat blanks as focus and focus as blank too.

Also, super weird but I even like the idea of if you roll all blank and focus turn them all to hits or evades. When you would normally wiff instead you perfect roll.

How about: When attacking, you may spend a focus token to change a blank to a crit. When defending, you may spend a focus token to change a blank to an evade.

Emphasis on blanks (his blindness) and crazy results (crits and evades with focus.)

"When you are dealt the face-up Blinded Pilot card, discard it immediately." Then you get to say to your opponent, "Are you kidding me? I'm blind!" Although, he is a crew member, not the pilot, so I guess that doesn't work so well.

Ooh I like that. I like that allot. should be at least 6 points to offset it's good ability. (Finn is 5 points to add a blank result)

At the beginning of the combat phase you may pick up one of your opponents dials and look at it.
Then you may change one of your dials. If your opponent complains say out loud "Are you kidding me? I'm blind!" .

Interesting, but how to cost the card? It gets proggessively worse the more dice you roll (i.e. the statistical risk to roll a complete blank gets really small with increasing number of dice). On a Hwk he would be useful (good for defense, although reroll on a 1-2 attack does not punch hard these days), while on some e.g. Nora build he would probably almost never meet the trigger condition on attack, while still providing some protection when used on defence. Defense boost traditionally was made expensive by FFG. However, the somewhat comparable Sunny Bounder is relatively cheap.
