Grand Admiral Thrawn - hopes and dreams

By emmjay, in Star Wars: Armada

With FFG now including items from the Rebels television show it is only natural to hope and wish for them to create a Grand Admiral Thrawn admiral card. Given his tactical and strategic genius, I think that his card should focus on command dials and manipulation of them to best support your fleet, rather than damage or anything else. This is because, in both legends and canon, he studied art to gain an insight into his opponents and apply a strategy from that insight to be able to easily defeat them in combat. In fact, in legends, he even used his knowledge to take over entire planets without damaging any military assets by using both cloaking technology and a dark jedi. And yes, given that his ability can be extremely powerful, I do think it will be very costly.

I have 3 possibilities for his card and I would love to hear any of your own ideas, or thoughts on mine.

IDEA 1

Cost: 28-35 points

For the purpose of setting command dials, treat the command of each of your ships as 1. Your opponent cannot modify, view, or discard any of your fleets command dials.

IDEA 2

Cost 35+

Do not set any command dials for your ships. When instructed to reveal a command dial, you may use any command on a command dial as though you had set it as normal.

IDEA 3

Cost 40-45 points

Your opponent plays with all their command dials face up. During the Command Phase, you set your dials only after your opponent has set theirs.

I'd rather have something like this... every book the guy is in he basically has an officer he works in close relation to as a mentor figure...

Regarding the last sentence of this mock card; How would that work with unique officers like Yularen or Tua?

exactly the same. that's basically what it's designed for.

So then each other ship in your fleet would not be able to equip officers if they were using Thrawn's ability, correct?

Hm, I hadn't really considered it.

I would think that they should be able to, as the intent of the card is to grant the officer effect from one ship to all ships without taking the slot.... The last line may need to be altered, as it was intended to reflect cards that required tapping such as Intel Officer. Essentially, if one took IO on Thrawns ship, each ship could use the effect, even though there isn't a card equipped to the ship to tap. Perhaps, it should read, "While resolving effects treat the upgrade as if it were equipped to each ship individually"

That's the intent anyways lol

That card version would be fun with Kallus.

My favorite so far was a twofer text. "As first player, you may choose the objective from the 1st or 2nd player's objectives. As second player, you may remove one of your objectives before the first player chooses."

Word it up a bit more tightly and have fun. Thrawn in the books won by putting opponents in a bad place before the fight even started

Just give him a Pellaeon card to synergize with :P
