FFG should create a 'R2-KT' dice and card.

By WiseGuy, in Star Wars: Destiny

Hi,
I am looking to get the story of the bravery of Katie Johnson out to the Destiny community.
Katie Johnson was a 7-year-old girl who had a brain tumour who wanted a droid like R2-D2 to watch over her like Artoo did for Padme.
The R2 Builders Club pulled together and a member repainted his droid pink and renamed it 'R2-KT' then sent it to her.
She had her own droid to look after her.
Katie Johnson a couple of months later passed away from the brain tumour, she was only 7-years-old.
Later unique R2-KT droids have been made and a community of Star Wars fans supporting the causes of terminally ill children has flourished across the world.
Her full story can be read at the website: http://www.r2kt.com/

I am trying to get her character of 'R2-KT' honoured in Destiny and I have created a petition to support this, can you share it, please and perhaps sign it yourself.

I approve

Eh. What's the bottom line? Will this somehow help to cure or curtail terminal illness?

I like the idea lots :)

I have excellent news. :) The petition has already gotten nearly 250 supporters already so far.

I would like to thank the Destiny community and the Star Wars fan community generally for taking up this cause and for their passion with this.

Special thanks to the 'R2 Builders Club' and the 'Sentinal Squad' whose efforts to spread the word on this have been phenominal.

There has been great suggestions from people sending emails and messages to myself, and my own local friendly gaming store has suggested that perhaps I run a R2-KT Charity Destiny Tournament, with any money raised to go to the'Make A Wish Foundation'.

I shall be at the Destiny FFG European Championships in Birmingham tomorrow giving out cards, spreading the story about R2-KT and maybe, just maybe playing some actual games of Destiny.

I'll have a chat with whoever is there from FFG as well, at the moment, no-one can suggest who is best at FFG I should send the finished petition to and there is no actual general FFG PR email address that I can find.

Stay Awesome.

That is great news! I like the idea that you posted on the website of it being a promotional-type thing. Definitely best if the production of this card is also a fundraiser to help people. I would definitely buy it, even if it didn't have any unique, new game mechanic (i.e., if it were more like an alt-art for an existing card). Thanks for putting this together!

Does an act of kindness require a bottom line?

Not really, no. But kindness doesn't automatically equate to accomplishment either, especially when it comes to charity / awareness. I have my doubts on both accounts, so I thought maybe someone could explain to me what we're hoping to achieve here.

I'll sign.

One of the hardest parts of illness is the physiological toll it takes one the sick person and their loved ones. Support may not change the outcome of the illness but it does help with coping with the illness.

More so, it could/would make sense to add her to SW Destiny as R2-KT was made canon years ago when the droid appeared in The Clone Wars show and in Force Awakens. But the droid has also appeared in other official images, as a toy figure, in videos, etc...

That's so cool!!! Definitely a great idea!!!

Oh, I'm sure there are more efficacious methods for coping than make believe robots and petitions for cheap card stock. All this does is reinforce a false sense of accomplishment when people should be donating their time instead.

Personally, I don't want to open destiny up to causes, no matter how noble they are. Once one gets in the precedent is set. Next thing you know, we'll have "save the rainforest", "support our troops", and "habitats for humanity" cards creeping into the game. I'm not against any of these things, but I'm also not interested in any sort of advertising spamming the game.

Evidently the dark side is strong in me today.

That was what I was originally worried about as well, that it would be non-Star Wars stuff (i.e. real-world stuff) getting into the game, but I like that R2-KT is canon, albeit as a background character, and the post made after the petition got a couple hundred votes stated that it would possibly be a promotional-type card. So, it's likely that it'll be a promotional alternate-art type thing, maybe an alt-art to Astromech or appearing in the art of a future event card (kind of an insider thing that won't bother people who don't care about R2-KT's story on Earth).

So, yeah, I think there were other ways this could've been done (like contacting FFG directly instead of via a signed petition or creating an unofficial alternate art card like so many have in X-Wing) but I do think that this is a lot less in-your-face or invasive to the game than a "save the rainforest" card... although I guess if they're talking about the rainforests of Kashyyyk that would be fitting as well!
