Everything is now at the printer

By Willange, in Runewars Miniatures Game

All the elf expacs. The crossbowmen too.

I've got mixed feelings on crossbows printing so soon though. On the one hand, Daqan would have had archers once the elves came out either way. On the other hand, where are my announcements for Death Knights and Darnati Warriors???

FFG clearly doesn't seem too concerned with keeping the factions equal in each little moment of this game's releases. It does seems they all get the neutral upgrades and all their units eventually, but it can take a little while to get that way.

I think they're just spooning out the new release info at a certain schedule and that when they do announce whatever the Waiqar will be getting it will show up on the "upcoming" list and move along very quickly. They're not likely to put something on that list before it's been announced.

I'd bet on it being a cavalry unit, most likely Death Knights but who knows? Maybe it'll be Barghests, or Bone Horrors-as-cavalry like the mount their new hero is riding. Maybe we'll see something else altogether. Wraiths as a special kind of melee infantry would be cool.

Remember anything can be a waiqar unit.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA I've already started modding my daqan stuff into waiqar slave legion...arrows and sword hilts sticking out of them...they are going to be all pail necrotic flesh with glowing eyes and blight oozing from them...

That's true but we all know that that's a poor excuse for having the armies uneven. The issue for Waiqar specifically is that they have no cavalry to flank with. Yes, they have Carrion Lancers which can somewhat fill the role, but part of their value will always be sunk into the blight mechanics, so using them as pure flankers won't generally have the greatest value. With Ankaur, you can bring in one unit of Oathsworn, sure. However, the best way to do Oathsworn (imo at least) is to have 2 formations of 2x1. Ankaur doesn't do that. Even if he did, you still lose out on unit variety (because you're forced to do Ankaur if you want true cavalry) and you lose out on some of the upgrades that would have been included in another expansion.

I know it's not a huge deal and the imbalance is temporary, but it really does bother me. Heck, the new undead unit might not even be a cavalry unit, but no matter what it turns out to be it'll still be more variety for them. Little stuff like this doesn't really turn me off to the game. It just makes me wonder why???? Does this kind of thing just not even register for FFG? This early in the game's lifecycle these little things feel bigger than they will later on when each faction has 6-8 unit types to call its own. /rantoff

If they keep to the same general news schedule they did with the Daqan, we should probably be seeing the announcement of a new Waiqar unit on Monday.

@Willange I think we will see some neat cav in a week or two and we will see things pop out of the printer around the same timeto have a unified wave 2(or 3?) release filling the holes in each faction...

I am thinking sales must be good for them to be pushing everything through all at once.

They don't always keep that page updated 100% to the process, unless there is a long lead time between when they commit to printing something and when it actually starts printing and they update the page when physical printing begins.

For Destiny, they had to commit to printing Spirit of Rebellion before they had even released Awakenings. They didn't actually announce Spirit of Rebellion until 6 weeks after Awakenings was released. Not sure how long it took the upcoming page to move it to At the Printer. I have also heard that they get an entire cycle of an LCG printed at once, but each pack still goes through the steps individually based on it's release date.

In the end, I think they had already committed to the 4 factions before launch, and likely some units we haven't seen yet. As they are previewed they will probably move directly to at the printer.

Except that marketing fluffed the preview article and Hawthorne leaked which "forced" them to release his info early, and on the following week when they would have had a Hawthorne article they announced a new Daqan unit instead.

Sadly , for Waiqar, marketing got their **** together, so we got an even three week spread (assuming we get the new unit on Monday)

*sigh* :(

I might be the only one, but I hate leaks. They are great in the moment, but kinda ruin the hype build up for me, as the leak generally comes too early. Destiny's expansion got leaked, like almost 2 months before release and it sucked all the hype out of it for me. Now I have discovered this game and all my hype is here.

Have to agree with Ywingscum.

I would prefer FFG keep things tight lipped and on a set schedule with some surprise reveals on special occasions.

It is better for the community IMO. Watching people rage quit 40K before 8th has even been fully revealed is just sad.
