Raider or Gozanti?

By Celestial Lizards, in X-Wing

Since Palp got nerfed Gozanti, Raider is now worthless (until the much needed Kallus nerf comes out):P

Okay jokes aside it depends on what you are flying. Now if you intend on playing epic occasionally (or more occasionally than the rest of us) Gozanti might be your first option as it has quite a few huge ship fixes that the Raider (as well as the Rebel Huge ships) need to be somewhat useful in the game and not just flat out die. However if you are planning on only Standard and just don't care about huge ships then maybe the Raider for even post nerf palpatine and the TIE advanced fix would be better.

I probably should have mentioned this: I'm on a limited budget and I have to get this money first (bills are expensive in Hawaii!) so price is a huge part of which ship.

TIE-Fighters are TIE/LN

Know this as I may, I still don't know what the hell LN stands for.

Line.

Also, since I'm going up against a CROC (they should rename it to the crocodile), what are very effective Imperial ships against Epics?

Have we already mentioned bombers?

With Plasma Torps. That's 5 damage at medium to long range for 3 points per tube.

The Gozanti is basically the "fix" ship for all of Epic. Ordinance Tubes, Optimized Generators, and Automated Protocols are all integral parts of Huge ship list building. Getting one now makes any future Epic ships an even better deal.

Yeah, this is very true.

I don't typically fly swarms, I'm more of a heavy-hitter Decimator/Phantom/Defender player. TIE/Fs don't really match my style, the Advanced does more. Then again, I would love to carry my Bombers into the middle of a fight.

Sounds

I remember when I first started and I only wanted a few ships for the rebels and few for the imperials. I remember scoffing at how expensive the EPIC ships were. It was in these early times I remember trying to decide between adding a B-wing or an A-wing....I eventually decided on the B-wing but of course I then found myself going back to the store a month later and picking up the A-wing. I soon realized that I was going to own at least 1 of every small and large ship.

Then came the day when I realized I needed at least 1 EPIC ship so i was deciding on either the Transport or the Tantive. Fast forward a few months and I think you know what happened.

My point to the OP is: it doesn't matter. If you're already considering buying an epic ship, you're going to own all the epic ships.

TBot, I've just bought my 2nd CR90....to go with the other 7 huge ships....mistakes have indeed been made, according to my wife!

I guess it's too late to say, "You know what the cure for this is? OTHER GAMES! There's this really great one called Armada..."

In all seriousness, though, the thing that's kept me to my "I have the one toolbox, it holds all my X-Wing ships, I only play Imperials" is that I like to do lots of other games than X-Wing. Oh, my D&D mini collection...

And now, Armada. But I've been a good boy and haven't bought the Imperial Star Destroyer... yet...

To the OP: Buy a Gozanti. The Raider is mostly a points bank, not really an effective ship. But I will CONTINUE to fly it every chance I get because I bought it and it's beautiful.

Yeah. . .as an Imperial player how can you NOT want to fly the largest dagger-shaped ship available :)

...or stick a hilt into the large engine and threaten to stab someone when they kill it?

Yeah, most likely. Thanks everyone for the feedback!

Yeah, I live on the Big Island, my brother is on Oahu. We see each other once ever two weeks and play X-Wing.

I really want to get into Armada, but it's very complex and that entry cost...

y'know, I considered that too. But almost every wargame costs about $250-300 to get a reasonable starting army - which is about what Armada costs, starter box and all, to get a decent Imperial or Rebel force.

I mean, think about how much you've SPENT on X-Wing. I've been extremely frugal with my purchases, limiting it to Imperial except for a Starviper and a Mist Hunter, and I've still got - FOUR HUNDRED AND SIXTY DOLLARS?! - of the game at retail. Some of that's been online at discount, and some of it's been prizes for tournaments, but **** son, that is no small potatoes.

Armada just charges more up front for that big starter box, instead of saying, "Well, this game only costs forty bucks... and this costs fifteen... and this costs thirty... and this costs twenty, but you'll only use two of the cards inside..." I mean, it makes it harder to see if you actually LIKE playing the game before buying it, which is a terrible thing, but overall it's probably less expensive than X-Wing.

For one thing, at least Wave 1 ships and fighters are still relevant. Hell, STARTER BOX ships are relevant for Rebels at least. <_<

And don't get me wrong, I know a lot about the game. Like that the suppression refit is frickin AMAZING!

I have recently bought a largish collection of Armada ships, but all second hand, as are about half of my X-Wing ships. I just need more time to actually play with my lovely toys!

That's my problem too. I refuse to get into anything else without giving all my xwing ships the attention they deserve.

But for the Gozanti-can you dock TIE/FOs to it as well?

Yes and TIE/SF :)

I don't yet have all the cards needed, but I'll bet 4 TIE Bombers with Plasma Torps, LWF and Unguided Rockets would melt almost and Epic enemy squad ?

Your posting on an Internet forum about people that play a game with little plastic ships while saying Pew Pew Pew....

if your not a nerd what are you doing here?homer-simpson-nerd-nerdssssssss.jpg

that was the point. sarcasm man

Raider : If you want shoot many time ! His ability to attack twice can be scary ! No need Palpatine : Vader/Shield technicien/Instigator is here.

Gozanti : If you want a support ship. Dropping Tie is really powerful on epic, you protect and you deploy them on your advantage. Tarkin/Suppressor/Sensor Team is really a support ship who can be annoying. Vector if you want to unleashed swarm, Requiem for Alpha strike.

Gozanti obviously. It carries TIEs.
