If that happens...I don't know what I'd do with myself.

Live, then, and be happy, beloved children of the winds, and never forget, that until the day FFG will deign to reveal the cards to man, all human wisdom is contained in these two words, "Wait and Hope."

The clan order on the poster is by color guys, lol. I've seen about 30 posts over the last few months perplexed by the ordering so I figured I'd finally step in.

By colors how?

My guess. Someone messed up the alphabetical order and they keep running with it to avoid admitting a mistake or they hadn't noticed it. That or they really like Crane and will put them in first for everything good, as they should.:D

It's probably based on how the fiction rolls out...

On a personal note, hopefully Crane is going first, so we can watch them get eaten by the Oni of the shadowlands.

Yeah! If it's by colors, shouldn't it be:

Scorpion

Phoenix

Lion

Dragon

Crane

Crab

Unicorn

?

OR the official clan spelling is retconned as "craane".

There was possibly a brief period before AEG sold L5R that they considered making a new non-collectible version of the game, and would have merged some of the clans to get it down to around four.

If that had happened, maybe we could have had the Crabe clan. (though, I think that's just French for crab, actually).

More seriously, I wonder if the Crane and Scorpion would have been merged. Maybe as the 'Raven' clan.

It could possibly be just an aesthetic, like light to dark, or just the way the colors mesh.

I don't see the pattern to it, and I'm not really sure how you order colors anyway.

I was going rainbow order (assuming Crab as indigo), just because that's the most standardized order of colors I can think of, and it's based on physical properties rather than just individual folks' personal preferences. I have no idea what was actually meant, though.

There's a conventional order for the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, light blue, dark blue, purple.

I know, I'm just confused.

Almost. The crane mon is a much lighter hue than the other six, so it needs to be either the start or the end (doesn't fit nicely in between any pair of mons). The most aesthetically pleasing order is light blue > dark blue > dark green ... then follow the color wheel... exactly what they did. Didn't you guys ever play with crayons as kids, ?.

What crayons have a specified color order? O_o

If you claim there is something more aesthetically pleasing about having light blue first, I'll have to take your word for it as I know nothing about that. I'm just saying that there's a well-defined order of colors based on the actual, physical properties of light, and blue falls somewhere in the middle, regardless of which end you start at.

It's also possible that Doji Hotaru is the story team favorite / de facto "main character" of the new plot (though I have faith that the story team won't pick clan favorites like that.)

The story team aren't the people we need to worry about. It's the members of the design team who care about the story, the people actually making cards.

I think the Lion and Scorpion will be next, in some order. Along with the Crane, they are the most "generic" clans from a story standpoint, and probably from a mechanics standpoint as well. They are probably the easiest clans to use to introduce the setting. I think it's no coincidence that they are the central clans represented on the box.

They could also path it through the fiction. The Crane fiction introduced the Scorpion, the Scorpion have an alliance with the Lion, who have a budding rivalry with the Unicorn, and so on.

We aren't talking about physics, we are talking about art. You can start on any color on a color wheel and work your way around. Crane mon should be on an end because it doesn't fit nicely between any two colors because it is so light. I probably shouldn't waste more of the FFG server space arguing over such minutiae, so ill desist...

I dunno. That seems a stretch. There isn't an order for a color wheel per se. Which of course, this doesn't follow either, dark bkue, light blue, green being the order.

Also Crayon boxes I remember were done as ROYGBIV.

I'm sorry, but I just don't see something as arbitrary and vague as "art" being a good reason for establishing an order.

Personally, I think williamobrien may be the closest so far, in suggesting that each clan introduced will lead to the next one in the series.

Careful about calling art arbitrary. They say the Crane have the best dueling academy in the Empire. ;)

We remove the Crane from the game and problem solved. :P

Order by RGB...

Yeah, but considering their clan champion struggled against a ronin, what does that really say about the Crane dueling academies, much less any other clans'?

Maybe an official warrant will be put out for him, and Tsuruchi will be hired to take him out! Tsuruchi will, of course, be successful, and in return the Wasp will become a major clan! ^_^

For all ye know, that ronin could be a seasoned plot device. I mean, niten bushi.

I don't think she struggled, she took the time to observe his style which meant he got the first licks in.

She could have dispatched him more easily, but she had her honor dial set to 1.
