VSD shows off some S-foils(x-foils?)(is this true?)

By Muelmuel, in Star Wars: Armada

was watching this mod for empire at war and the vsd basically shows that it has fins that can open at 5:10 onwards. Anyone know if this is true/lore and what could it mean for vsd future expansions/upgrades?

I believe, in legends at least, that the wings that the mod uses as s-foils were actually hangar bays. This is literally the first time I've ever seen them interpreted this way so I'd guess nothing will happen along these lines for armada.

I think the fins open up when they are going to shoot missiles, aka Ordnance. That's what they did in RaW. So we already have those upgrades and slots in place.

Nice. So would a expansion with vsd ace/alt with move-able fins be viable? I mean they did move-able fins for most fighters that have them in xwing(lambda, uwing, etc.)(wonder why they did not give this treatment to the vsd model from the outset?)

That's an artist's depiction. Victory was conceived before the movie Clones Wars with the Venator showing you didn't need "atmospheric maneuver" sections on your hull as a massive starship to operate within an atmosphere. And then someone had the idea that these sections should act like fins.

Fractalsponge has his own take on it, the fins on his model are to protect the concussion missile launchers. Which is what you see in RaW.

But no, Lore/published sources doesn't say anything about fins or massive s-foils on Victory.

At minimum, it looks cool, and that makes it head-canon for me.

Oic. It would fit in so well with the imperial style and all, like the raider does.

someone posted photos here of an Armada VSD mod, with the armor doors open some time last summer added lights and all. I can't find it but its here somewhere.

Probably not the one you mean, but this was one of the first full victory repaints people did after release...

Man, that's so bleeping sexy. Who do I need to pay to build that for me.

I believe the confusion comes from how vague the side-profile of the ship was in the West End Game RPGs (Here is a collage, all ships on the left). They defined these square structures on the sides of the ship, but they didn't specify if they opened outward or inward.

The TIE Fighter Flight simulator is the only place I've seen the Victories have X-Shaped foils, because that's how the model was rendered. Without clarification either way, the TIE Fighter team just rendered it as they imagined it.

The side-profile of the Interdictor cruiser was also vague. The result is the TIE Fighter model only having four domes (instead of the canonical eight), with an additional dome in the superstructure and the reactor bulb.

Yeah, when they are closed all powers redirect to engines, and YET the model has like that and it's speed 2 non-maneuverable, well done FFG.

Which makes you think - with them open, are they speed 1? ::shudders::

According to the legend star wars "Essential guide to vehicles and vessels" it is mentioned that the "wings" on the VSD is to assist it in atmospheric flight, and it was why the ship was good to planetaric bombardments, which is reflected in the Rebellion strategic game from 1998, where the VSD bombardment value modifier is generally higher than other ships.

Yeah, that is fanon as far as I know. And bad fanon. There is no reason why it would have to close or open wings to redistribute power.
