We Must Away, Ere Break of Day - suggestions?

By Chimpy, in Strategy and deck-building

I've recently started playing the game again after a break of several years. I have
- 2 core sets
- All the Shadows of Mirkwood cycle
- Khazad-dum deluxe expansion
- Road to Rivendell, and The Long Dark packs

I've just bought the Over Hill and under Hill, and the At The Doorstep packs, and I'm really struggling with the first quest "We Must Away, Ere Break of Day". The trolls when they appear hit for 5 damage! I usually play solo single handed except for quests which are just almost impossible without 2 hands (e.g. Escape from Dul Guldur).

Does anyone have any suggestions for decks (1 or 2 handed) that I can make that might be successful with the packs I have? I don't really know how to handle those 3 trolls so early in the game.

edit- I am hoping to keep the deck thematic as well by avoiding characters who wouldn't be present in the time of the hobbit, although this might be not possible.

Dain and five other dwarf heroes, pack every dwarf and dwarf-enhancing attachment you can think of, and don't finish stage one until you have a sufficient army to deal with the trolls.

DĂșnedain Warning gives +1 defence as an attachment, do you think that's worth including?

It depends on whether you're wanting to just chump-block/feint Trolls or set up hero defense -- if the latter, you *definitely* want Dunedain Warning. Dain has the best bones for a dwarvish hero defender (3 def, 5 hp), but exhausting him for defense can cripple your offense. A readying effect would work well here. (Armored Destrier rocks on Dain, but you don't have that card yet.) . Bombur's the next best defender choice at 2 def, 5 hp, and that's about all he's good for. Of the dwarves you have, the other 2 def choices all would be better as questers or attackers, I think. You do want Balin as one of your dwarves if you're doing hero defense, to help protect against shadows.

I'm using a similar deck but with Dain instead of Thorin, and have had some success but I want to get the treasures, and the darned key keeps being near the bottom of the encounter deck! I will post the list that works when I've done that.

I think this is the 2nd hardest quest I've ever done in this game, after Escape from Dul Guldur. Very frustrating.
