Your L5R LCG Clan deck (conjecture)

I'm going to go Mantis (focusing on Tsuruchi, of course), but I may splash in a Ratling or three.

Obviously, I'll be focusing on archery (regardless of how it works, mechanically), and the Ratlings will be there for a bit of swarming surprise!

Tempting, but I think I'll try Naga with a splash of Brotherhood of Shinsei. Enlightenment victory via the Akasha!

I mean, we've only seen a few cards, but my Unicorn brain wants to assign no attackers and see what you do before I move my army in. That makes the Crane card that bows lone defenders really powerful. Also, FASHION.

And yet our "Way of" card has us keep the first player token rather than staying the hell away from it. This truly is a new take on the setting.

Honestly? No idea.
In theory? Dragon splashing Scorpion (attachments so far are Military heavy, and Scorpion Political tricks are top notch... also, gotta fight for dat alliance!)

That's what I'm going with. Good choice. ?

Crabs with kimonos. I would love to see if I could splash some crane political cards and see if I could break a province or two politically.

Also thinking maybe some phoenix could synergize well in playing a defensive game.. will have to wait and see.

... and who isn't going to at least try making a dishonor deck! Probably not as a main win condition but if your playing against military and they get greedy for cards... They may not expect seeing dishonor cards thrown at them. I hope this would be a viable way of keeping military decks honest.

Crane/Scorpion.

Pure crab as main but i might play around with scorpion jut to have something completely different. Ill hold off on picking a support as I want to see what they all can do.

As you might guess, I plan to have Phoenix as the Stronghold, but which clan I splash in probably depends on card utility and what the deck's trying to do. I anticipate Crane or Dragon as having the best complementary cards, but it might be a case of covering gaps, which could be Lion or Crab.

I want an Ide honor deck...

I'll take an Ide character, just give me something FFG!

And I want a Battle maiden deck. But before the game reach at least 2 cycles and the assorted deluxe boxes, I don't think we'll have enough personalities to build decks focussed on a family or a single trait.

Well, yes. Unless it's the big trait of your clan. We can still probably build a good general horse deck.

I would worry if we could not do that out of the Core.

I worry about a lot of things. Like Unicorn being forgotten about in the story as just another clan.

Indeed. Many can say the same of their own self-assigned faction of color-coded magical samurai.

Does anyone know if we are going to get a full preview of all of the cards in the core set before gencon? I am wanting to get a solid look at them to plan how my deck will look for the tournament.

400nm forever!

Unicorn was involved in one of my favorite fictions, A Good Little Wife .

Knowing that the Crab champion was the son of a Unicorn made the Crab feel like cousins for basically the entire span of the CCG. I knew many Crab players who felt the same. In fact, when they proposed a Crab/Uni rivalry, we just lol'ed... Sure.

I hope FFG can provide a story with similar impact.

I too am planning on playing Crab with Crane support. "The Wall must be defended, and we are the wall!" (And I think bad *** Doji Kurohito was the first L5R character I can remember EVER seeing, so I gotta use our northern neighbors political expertise) I've always felt that Crab should be able to pull off a defensive honor victory, where they're viewed by the other clans as honorable for doing their duty defending the wall, despite victory over the Shadowlands being more important than honor. The Crab are usually too busy to attack other clan's provinces after all.

I like playing defensively, and I'm pretty conflict-averse, so I intend to flavour my Phoenix with some Crab (for defendoofs) or Crane (to scoop up all the honour). But these posts:

got me thinking about decks named after Flight Of The Conchords songs, so now I want to build these as well:

Fashion Is Danger : Political Crane honour deck, that uses honour as a resource to draw and play dirty Scorpion tricks.

Prince Of Parties : Political Crane again, but this time with the weirdest Phoenix spells I can find. (The video for the song is framed as a literal acid trip.)

The Most Beautiful Girl (In The Room) : A weird blend of Crab fortifications and Crane political shenanigans. (Why is it always Crane?)

I Told You I Was Freaky : The finest monastic Dragon oddities mixed with the finest Phoenix magical strangness.

I still need to see more cards before I can ultimately decide what to play or 'splash'. In particular, getting more information on the unrevealed Strongholds and province cards would really help. With what we have, I do like the basic idea of the Dragon with its manipulation and reliance of the rings, the possible splash of Phoenix for that courier, the potential of the Crane with their dire situation, and the general awesomeness of the Scorpion at this point in the time line.

I do hope we get some interesting conflict cards of the clans to splash. In particular, the Ide from the Unicorn, non-attachments from the Dragon, even more goodies from the Phoenix, scouts from the Crab, and even some personalities from the Cranes (we need a harrier!).

From what I've seen and read so far I'm really liking the Dragon, Scorpion, and Crane. I'm thinking Dragon with Crane influence as my main and Crane w/Scorpion or Scorpion w/Crane as a change of pace.

I'm thinking of going Lion with card denial support, whatever factions end up having that.

Deny them cards, constantly bid low, and put on the military pressure.

It'll probably end up as Crane support for those sweet sweet honor duels.

Call it the Chimera Alliance :P

Since it doesn't look like I can play my first love (Brotherhood of Shinsei), and I never really grokked Dragon (which I switched to after Monks went away), I may give Phoenix a try. Probably corrupt Phoenix if that's possible.

I really haven't seen enough Conflict cards to know what I'd like to splash.
