Anyone Going to Gencon?

By KrisWall, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

Hey all,

Looks like Gencon in August is going to have a "Labyrinths of Lunacy" Arkham Horror TCG event. Sounds like The Labyrinths of Lunacy will be an event standalone scenario just like Curse of the Rougarou. I'll be registering in a day or two for the Sunday session.

Anyone else going/registering?

I'm going to register for Sunday, too. However, registration opens only on the 28th (at noon US Eastern time). What you can do in the meantime is add events to your wishlist so you can register faster when the time comes.

Yeah. That's what I meant. I'm adding them to my wishlist.

I will be there as well. I'm going to try for the Saturday 9 AM game.

I'm assuming there will be an article before gencon to preview the scenario. I'm curious how deckbuilding will work for an event like this.

I understand a similar LotR mega-game was actually multiple games working toward a common goal and combining at the end, with uniqueness applying only to your sub-table rather than across all 6-12 players.

If deckbuilding rules were affected, I imagine that would be in the event description.

It lists the FFG website for more information. We need to at least know if we're allowed to include any cards with xp costs or if it's only 0 xp.

Having never done one of these events before, I have a lot of questions. Do people build decks ahead of time, or wait until they're grouped up, and then figure out what they're playing?

That's a good question. At the moment, I play only Guardian, but I'll probably take my whole collection just in case.

Easy to do when there's only one cycle and one expansion. Imagine LOTR with 12 expansions and 7 cycles. =)

My plan is to bring a Rex Murphy heavy investigation deck and just hope I get paired up with someone who can actually kill a basic cultist.

You're half right. "Siege of Annuminas" broke the players into three groups playing simultaneously, and uniqueness worked like you described, but the game still only advanced one phase at a time, and there was more interaction between groups as well. Most importantly, the three groups shared a single Annuminas health bar, so one group playing poorly would damage the entire team. Likewise, you couldn't advance quest stages until everyone was ready to advance, and the quest stages themselves usually gave you the ability to help other groups in limited ways.

See the quest and setup cards

I wouldn't try to lug that onto a plane, that's for sure.

Well... I clicked Submit Wishlist the literal second that event wish list submission went live. Roughly #7000th in place for processing and still waiting. Every Arkham Horror event sold out in moments. This was literally the only must do thing I wanted to do at Gencon. I'm so disappointed.

Will FFG be selling this scenario separately as a POD standalone? Does anyone know.

If LotR LCG is any reference, then yes, they will release it a few months later.

I hope so. Every event I put on my wish list sold out before my wish list processed. I have no idea what I'm going to do at Gencon now. I'm considering just cancelling my event registration and staying home. $99 + hotel + travel is way too much to just walk around the floor for four straight days.

What an absolutely terrible experience.

I was under 3500 in line and had no luck. Then again, I was only trying for one time slot.

With only 144 total players and no runs on Friday, this seemed a little underestimated as far as popularity goes. I hope they decide to add some more time slots for this, as they now know they'll sell out instantly.

I'm wondering if they'll sell the scenario at the FFG booth at Gen Con. It sounds like they might but I rarely go near the FFG booth due to the insane line that always forms.

Yeah, I didn't get into any of my top priority events either, even though I was online to submit my wishlist as soon as it went live. Looks like I'll just be doing mage wars and vs for organized events. No arkham horror or l5r.

Yes they will. Same as the one from Arkham nights.

Glad to hear.

Also keep in mind that it never hurts to keep generic tickets on you and just walk up a bit before events start. There's always folks who don't show up for whatever reason. I've gotten into LCG tournaments in past years doing this.

EDIT: also remember that you can sell back generic tickets that you don't use so it's pretty risk free.

Yeah, that's my plan. Nobody else do this. Only me. :D

You're safe from me. I got into a Sunday 9am spot already.

But are you safe from me? Sounds like if I can find you and delay you somehow, I can take your spot on Sunday.:D

(obviously joking!)
