But they shouldn't eternally lie dead, only lay dreaming. I think we need to see more of a FFG presence on the boards. Sure we're just between releases. But the lack of activity is not healthy for the game. Only they can inject the excitement of spoils or news or bringing the community in.
sometimes the boards are just dead
How about
this spoiler
? I'm trying to make sure there will be a steady flow of spoilers in the forseable future...
i see a lot of people either not returning or just lurking, i think a lot for me and some others is we were spoilt with the ccg with sooo many cards where here we have to wait for a while before we get that sort of card pool.
the ffg front page has the above that marius posted, and is a good place to look, but i agree it would be nice to get "little tasters" now and then.
FFG has turned this into a 'Kitchen Table' game for casual gamers, they rarely come to forums to discuss things. They play it like a board game and unless there is a rule question they don't agree on, they have no reason to post on forums.
I asked. We received. Great. I still think it's a quality product. Different, but good. There are two aspects, we all know, to being a cthulhu gamer - the theme and the mechanics. Though I do not play the game all that well, I am no casual gamer. I've got the library and the cthulhu collection to prove my insanity. Come on over to my padded cell and check 'em out. I understand the point about the kitchen table. I miss the older voices dearly. I instead thank our elder cthulhu emissary, a player and organizer friendly with FFG. He has brought us a new spoil and added his tactical and colorful contribution. Now, B_P on the spoil page for Princess Zura, the Flower of the Charnel Garden (4 cost 3 skill TCA Villainous, Servitor. Monster) argues cthulhu faction needs more cheap characters and destruction. He gave a dig that Marius emphasizes combos instead. Different than choosing this particular thread to call out FFG for being absent.
All hail the princess, kicks Julia's ass, wed to the Long Dead Prince , Ancient Royalty . Their union, he daubing his silk kerchief on her ripped green rotting core, makes me fear for his cheap cost 1 hiney. At cost 4 give me Ravager from the Deep, Yig, Deep One Rising, or Lurking Star Spawn. Only Loyal Blasphemous Hybrid has better comparable stats, and no one played her at cost 3, but she did just lose her creepy hot cthulhu chick title. With the princess and hydra, cthulhu will have nine villainous LCG characters. And she's illustrated by Felicia Cano. Cano's given us a bunch of girls. Yay girls!
Zura was once a beautiful living maiden, now she is the commander of the undead of the Charnel Garden of the Dreamlands. She is a tall, leggy woman with long dark hair that falls in braids about her shoulders. She typically wears one-piece garments that are tailored to cover the parts of her body that are infected with tomb-rot, but leave much of her body exposed. Her complexion is cold, icy, and pale. So sayeth the mad scribe (Art Director).
Brian Lumley, Ship of Dreams , volume 3 (1994) of Lumley's Dreamlands Series. Hero of Dreams is volume 1 (others Mad Moon of Dreams , Iced on Aran ) Tacky synopsis:
Once David Hero was an ordinary man living in the real world. Now he is trapped in the Dreamlands, cut off from the waking world. David Hero's dreams and nightmares have become his only reality.
Led by wickedly beautiful Queen Zura, the zombie armies of the dead are on the march. They will destroy the beautiful Dreamlands, making them a permanent, deadly nightmare.
Unaware of the marauding zombies, David Hero and his friend Eldin voyage through the clouds in a wondrous skyship. Their journey is interrupted by a pack of faceless nightgaunts, terrifying creatures, half-man and half-batand all evil!
David Hero is one of Zura's first targets. As a man of the waking world, he can withstand her terrible seductive power and shatter her shambling armies. David Hero must be the first Dreamlands hero to die.
Thanks Marius

So how how old is the LCG? It is still fairly new correct? So basically the card pool isn't nearly the same as it used to be? I mean of course the CCG was out for a while, but hasn't the LCG been out long enough to gain a following...I guess I get so confused between the CCG and the LCG and how players responded to it, why they changed it, how it affected the game itself, etc. I know the difference between them with the Asylum packs etc. but I guess I don't understand how it affected the community and why...even Wikipedia is slack on detailed info in terms of what happened when and why and how it affected things. Did FFG always own the Call of Cthulhu CCG and then just turn it into an LCG for whatever reason?

people are still crying cause ffg told them to shut up about black borders...but seriously i think they were just looking for an excuse to leave the game. for quite a bit of time the ccg was dead in the water. then ffg came up with this plan to keep the game alive, which involved them doing what they thought was best and the ccg fans got all mad cause ffg wasnt doing what they (the fans) wanted. thats my take on it. some people just cant except the fact that this game belongs to ffg and not us. we got more cards in the past year than we did from the 2 year run of black border asylum packs.
but in all fairness ffg was far more communicative before to the fans. i havent received a single response to any rule question emails i sent since lcg and as servitor of our local play group thats just bad in my opinion. i remember even when ccg was dead before the lcg annoucements i could still email ffg and they would send me promos when i mentioned running a tourney. plus there is the deckbase site where they havent answered a single email on that either. and i remember donald had a serious issue involving prizes and they kept blowing him off too (not sure if that was ever resolved)
before it seemed they really had an interest in people playing and enjoying the game, now it seems they just want you to buy it and leave them alone.
Okay, so is it even worth it for me to buy the game or attempt to get into it? Honestly? Will the game pick up more?
Also, what exactly is The Secrets of Arkham Expansion? It seems bigger than the others? It also has new story cards? I thought the ten original story cards were the main ones used and only ones used?
Hell, I don't even know why I'm bothering but I love Call of Cthulhu that much, I really wish FFG would support this game...
FFG, if you're reading this, you should seriously support this game. I have bought every Arkham Horror product off of you guys, and have been loyal in doing so. I have spread the word of Arkham Horror to many a people as well. This game seems to have the potential to take off...
Darknight, why was the game dead in the water? What killed it off?

If, however, you already know a couple of players (or if you've managed to generate some interest in your circle of friends) and plan to play it casually most of the time, I can definitely recommend it.
well im not going to get into an argument with anyone, each to his own, eh, the game really died in one respect because of a lack of promotion of the game, no different to the lcg either, changing the borders to white, will not re invent the game, ffg stopped helping us when it whent to white, no different than the recent change in anima to white borders, its just a re launch of the same game with differnt mechanics, no excuses to leave a game, i dont know anyone who has left because they always wanted to, but couldnt find a good excuse, the feel of the game has changed, from ccg to lcg, which i think is trying to be corrected now with the newer ap packs, dont get me wrong i love ffg products they are a great company, i wish i could work for them,
it always had a darker feel, the cards were far more lovecraftian, is that a word? some things are hardewr to explain, the cards now seem very tame compared to the older version, i know of many clubs that still play the ccg, for no other reason than they like it, of course the new one is played there as well, and a mixed format as well, so there is nothing wrong with the new one, its just different, and each to his own. i find some people go over the top in having a go at people who prefer the old one or vice versa the new one, its just a matter of taste.
i wouldnt not buy the lcg, im glad you have, its cthulhu after all, and im sure you will find lots of fun in it, so dont be put off by the ccg/lcg thing, its a great game

Who says they aren't? They release asylum packs monthly.
I agree that abit more attention could be paid to it, and many of their other games but unlike Magic for WotC, this game isnt FFG's major breadwinner.
I can see a lot of room for better product support of cours, and FFG not responding to rules queries or issues with prize support is bad, but there arent many legitimate reasons to say "I wish FFG would support this game". What do people want? For FFG to hold their hand while they play the game?
I think FFG ignoring rules questions, or any other question for that matter is grounds for me to say I wish they would support the fan base more.
