Do you like the units?

By magicrealm, in Runewars Miniatures Game

Hello friends,

i would like to hear if you are happy with the unit types in RW:MG. Well, i dont mean if you like the quality of details, the model as artwork. i mean if you like Undead riders on Carrions, with a green light as eye, elven scions a bit like trees, with the same green light as eye, human Golems with multiple arms, etc.

i am an older classic player and would descrive the units this way : indefinitely Monsters everywhere, same in Undeads, Humans or Elves, no difference, just monsterlike "Things"

Sure there are infantry, cavalry, lightartillery (crossbowmen, rangers), but the "bigger ones" are no match to the classics in my eyes. I would have favoured real Treeman, Manticores, Nightmares, Angels, etc. It looks like FFG thought that these kind had their time in the past and something new should be done. ok, but indefintely Things with a green light cant be an alternative. really not. so my plans with RW:MG are frozen until some models appear which appeal to me. Thats my point of view.

Yes. I like them very much.

The "green light" problem can be fixed by choosing a different color of paint, no?

I've played Rune Age and BattleLore: Command a lot, so it's good to see similar units. Can't speak for the elves in that regard, but the Aymhehlin Scions look great to me. More of a slithering tree than a lumbering thing. Gives it a different feel with graspy vines all over.

I like the figures too, and I expect we will get a variety of new ones down the road. I would caution patience on that.

the scions are like magical living tress, I think they are great same with the carrion lancer and the golem. All fine choices.

The absolute best of all are the Leonx riders, elves riding mother f****** battle cats! That is so so awesome!

so I am happy with what we have seen and expect we will see a whole bunch more, Pegasus in elves, crazy demons in Uthuk, more cool undead stuff, who knows for humans. Also possibility of others outside the 4 factions. I'm getting excited just thinking about that.

I really like the Golems and the Worms. I do hope that there are some monsters that make it into the game. I wouldn't mind seeing a wave of monsters after all four factions get their seige, cavalry, ranged infantry, melee infantry, 2 heroes, and an Infantry Command pack.

I do hope they stay away from the ridiculously huge models that I sometimes see Warmachine and 40K players using.

I think they're great and appreciate that they're keeping with their own unique look, although I don't think there's as great a difference as you describe. Also bear in mind that the Runewars universe has been around awhile and has it's own lengthy history and catalog of units and creatures spread across several products. It's not a completely brand new look just for Runewars TMG.

Undead carrion worm things are well within my expectations of what an Undead army would use, as are magically animated golems and treant-like creatures. They don't have to look like they copy/pasted from the D&D Monster Manual.

I really like models - carrion lancers and scions look cool. Most boring is golem and im saying that like Daqan player.

I like the models. All of them.

Okay, so the Rune Golem gave me pause as I stared at it last night. I think overall, the swords, 4 arms, no mouth, and cool armor make it 10x cooler than the version in BattleLore. APP046-golems.png

But wait a second! Why would you make armor for a warrior that's HEWN FROM STONE?! Also, what's with the loin cloth? Are they hiding something? I think the BattleLore versions are a bit more realistic from a design perspective.

But I cannot deny that the flowing cloth ratchets the Epic score quite a bit.

The Golem model is why I bought the game. I'm really hoping the Daqan get more units with that same sort of aesthetic.

The loincloth is hiding its stones?

I mean... if we're asking questions of practicality, why have them feature bilateral symmetry? Why make them bipedal? Why give them heads at all?

Personally, I figure the armor is somewhat to protect their runes. They're big and made of rock, but given the loose references to the Golem of Prague I figure that when a golem takes two wounds that represents the enemy scarring their carved runes beyond recognition, rendering them lifeless rock again.

I mean sure, that means he should probably wear a helmet instead of shoulderpads, but whatevs, maybe he has runes under there.

The Figures are awesome. I wish they added more variety and poses (extra limbs?) per normal unit type. The golems and worms are awesome but the modified poses are very subtle changes. I'd love a carrion worm in a totally new pose. The waquar are some of the best undead figures I've had the pleasure to paint - though I find the Daquan Calvary so much fun, but the spearmen a bit tedious to paint. There just isn't enough interesting per figure.

I'm hoping the elves are far better. Plus No Dwarves. We need some dwarves.

For just beginning I think the game has a lot going for it. Sold unit types with enough flavor to make them unique.

The initiative/action dials give a good amount of tension and break up I go, you go type of turns.

I can't wait to see what other units they come up with.

I'm eyeing some of my Descent stuff. I hope that the Daqan get Ironbound units.

I must say I don't completly understand you point.

I don't understand that you can't see the difference of a carrion lancer and the elven scions. While the scions have this bright green as an eye the carrion does not. The thing that is green on the studio painted models is the slime/blight that it can spit from it's mouth. I don't even think the carrion worms have eyes and hunts thanks to other senses or perhaps some magic. The "human" golems aren't really designed for by humans to recemble humans, at least that's what I got from reading the rulebook. They don't seem to know who made them but they can be activated with runeshards. I like the model with 4 arms, but I think it would look fine with the standard 2 arms.

I do however really like the models so far. The carrion rider looks cool and a sickly looking worm that feeds on corpses fits perfect with an undead army IMO. I can agree that I like classic tree ents or elementals like classic warhammer fantasy or magic the gathering artwork. These scions represent newer designs by artist using digital tools to paint, I think they look fine for what they are though.

From what I've seen earlier from the runebound universe is that it's a high fantasy with a lot of colours and a little cartoony feel. That's why I don't have much interest in the Daqan or the elves as they look pretty plain and boring to me. The undead look really cool though and the sculpts looks alot better than other skeleton models I have seen in the past who often have either too thick limbs and fingers or oversized heads.

If the start box was elves and daqan I would probably not look twice at this game except at the golem and scion models since I am a sucker for monsters in fantasy games. Only reason I play fantasy rpg's or dungeon crawler boardgames is that the monster minatures are cool.

C.F. Siege Golems (well, it does have a head but... )

I bought this game basically on a whim of it looked cool and I like ffg games. If the figures seem a bit average right now, that's because it's in its first set of releases. In two years armada got a whole bunch of awesome ships, and I believe we will see plenty of cool sculpts out of this game in the future.

Carrion lancers.

Have you seen these guys?

Carrion lancers, man!

I love 'em! (granted, you are asking that question here, in the forums for the game, full of us eager beavers keen to discuss anything groovy about the game)

I'm glad they steered away a bit from the old Descent aesthetic. I hated those fat giants, and some of the monsters just looked... Goofy. I'm generally happier with what I'm seeing here in Runewars Minis Game.

I'm with tvayumat...the carrion lancer is why I bought this game...I've been into this crazy crap since the very first edition of d&d umpteen thousand years ago, and the lancer is one of the sickest, most badass things I've seen in a long time. Seriously, a skellie on top of an oversized, toxic pus filled maggot with mandibles? What's not to love?

I like the models, for a rank-and-system their details are ok.

And it is no problem to customize your minis with extra bits.

I have used my old Vampire WHFB bits, now my reanimated have spears and so on, instead of their original weapons.
