Closing in Terrain Question

By Hepitude, in Runewars Rules Questions

This question is for two units fighting while one is occupying a terrain piece.

If the unit outside the terrain loses enough trays so that it is no longer touching the terrain do the units become disengaged? The attacker on the terrain can't close in while it is occupying a piece of terrain... Any ideas?

It looks like you would become disengaged. Closing in requires you to shift and collide. You aren't permitted to collide when exiting terrain with a shift. If you can't close in you become disengaged.

RRG, pg. 8:
'17.1 To close in, a unit performs a speed-1 shift action and must collide with the enemy unit it was most recently engaged with—the enemy unit that had one or more of its trays removed. If there is a collision with that unit, the unit squares up as normal, but any other game effects that are triggered when units collide are ignored.
If the closing-in unit cannot collide with the enemy unit it was most recently engaged with, both units remain in the same position and are no longer engaged. Any game effects triggered when units disengage are ignored'

RRG, pg. 19:
'When a unit exits a piece of terrain, that unit cannot be overlapping or touching any other obstacle.
81.5 If a unit cannot be placed when exiting, it cannot exit the terrain, and the march or shift action fails.'

That's all that I could think too... strange, but I guess it makes sense.
