Hello all! I am wondering if it is ok here to throw out some beginner questions , like really beginner. My daughter and I just started playing and we are running into bumps in the road. I try to google some of the questions but sometimes it is hard to word the question and I can't find what I need

We started jotting questions down to get answers and I wanted to make sure I found the right place. Again, these will probably be common knowledge for you guys , but we want to make sure we are doing it right. Also, we are singed up for tournament in about two weeks?

A big one, if the card doesn't specifically State opponent you can use it on yourself. A good example is force choke. I know it seems weird to do damage to yourself but to be able to change your dice to something doing far more damage is a good thing.

You are right. If card says turn another card to a blank or something to that effect, it means any card, (yours or opponents) In Vader control decks this is used a lot to combo with other cards for dice mitigation and removal. I have found the important thing is to read the card and not read more into it.

But my question has to with the cost. R2 has a cost of 2 and one of the sides of the die shows one resource. So does that mean I can't use it to gain a resource , I know I can't go negative ?

or is the cost on that card only if you roll the special ?

R2 is a support, so you pay that 2 resources when you first play him, and then he's basically another character. Your opponent can't attack him, and doesn't need to defeat him to win, but other than that treat him exactly like a character and ignore that 2-resource cost for the rest of the game.

edit: you also can't play upgrades on R2

So here's another one, I don't think it really states a number. But is there a limit as to how many turns we take in a round? It seems like when my daughter and I play we go back and forth so many times before we both pass...?

videos I've seen seem to only go back and forth 2 or 3 times before upkeep

The back and forth really depends on the decks. A lot of the most popular decks right now use Rey, Force Speed, Jango Fett, and Fast Hands to get tons of free actions, so when they take a turn, they're actually taking 2-4 actions. There's no limit as to how long a round can go. If you're running characters that do different types of damage (ranged vs. melee) or if you're running lots of supports, it might take more than a dozen turns to end the round! Usually, one player claims the battlefield and then the other player does as many actions as they want before passing.

the times we have played I think neither of us thinks about it, I'm sure we will once we get some more rounds in

I just watched one of the live plays here.

I can honestly say I was having a hard time keeping up, but one thing I didn't get had to do with activating characters

A couple of times one of the players activated both of his characters at the same time, is this with the use of a card? Or have I missed something , I thought one action was activating one player ...?

Yep, that's using Wingman or some card with the Ambush ability to take two actions. Activating one character is one action.

So I have a question on wording. When card says " a character " but doesn't say "opponents character" , can I still deal damage or whatever is on the car to my opponent even though it does not state it ? I know I can deal on myself but not sure about my opponent

If it doesn't specify then you can choose.

Goes both ways - for example in this game Vader can force choke himself and use that to improve his own dice.

This is true, but the example given is wrong. Force Choke reads 'another character', so it can't target the character it's attached to. Vader can't choke himself, but he can choke his teammates to 'encourage' them to work better (by changing their dice).

I just noticed something I saw on one of the videos. When you do first shuffle and pick your 5 cards and switch out the ones you don't want they go back into the deck and it gets reshuffled, correct?

then on the next round if you put cards down , they go in the discard pile ?

if this is the case I'm pretty sure we have been doing it wrong, we keep reshuffling ?

What is the proper way to do this?

You are correct on both points.

It's only when you first pick cards that they get reshuffled. After that, they get discarded, and you lose the game if you try to draw a card and all 30 of your cards are in the discard pile.

It sounds like you might be playing something wrong, particularly so if the bold excerpt is true. How does a typical round go for you both? (It sounds like you're equating a round to an entire game). Remember, you don't ready your exhausted characters or supports, or draw back your hand, until a new round. And a new round can't begin until all players have passed to end the current round. So someone will usually claim the battlefield first on almost every round.

Claiming the battlefield is one of the available actions, (but will be your last action this round, as you're forced to pass after doing so). Usually the first person to have exhausted any better options will try to claim it before their opponent does.

We go thru the rounds , with the upkeep and everything. Just found out we were doing the cards in hand wrong, but we never claimed a battlefield. We would go back and forth until both of us passed, never going for the battlefield, mostly because we weren't sure exactly how to use them. I was under the impression that it was a once in a game kind of deal......
