CR-90 Usable As Standard Play Obstacle!?

By terrymac94, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Going through the rules for epic play a couple days ago, I noticed something saying that in lieu of using 3 obstacles in standard play, players could choose to use the CR-90 base template flipped over to the starfield side and that when ships went through/overlapped it they would follow the same standard obstacle rules from the original core set rule book.

Summarized Version: CR-90 template can be used as obstacle in standard play (possibly, competitive play).

It can in non-tournament events as those specifically mention which obstacles you may select in FFG's tournament rules.

As for standard play, make sure your opponent is okay with it and it definitely shouldn't be used every game. Its meant for thematic reasons more than anything.

From FFG Tournament rules:
"Each player must include exactly three unique obstacle tokens of their choice in their squad. Players must select these obstacles from the twelve asteroids included in the two core sets and the six debris clouds included in the YT-2400 and VT-49 Decimator expansion packs. A player may not select two of the same asteroid or debris cloud."1

It's more amusing to play with the "CR-90 IS DEATH!" and have any small ship that overlaps it automatically explode...

We had an epic tournament and instead of the six obstacles I brought two gozantis.

do you place the ship on the table or do you use the base to determine if a ship overlaps it?

We just used the base for simplicity.

The whole point is to use your nice model as the obstacle.

And please note that you do not overlap like you do obstacles. There are special overlap rules when using epic ships as obstacles

We have an epic league but no one so far, against me at least or games that I've seen, used them as obstacles. We like to wreck them ourselves~ haha
