Other Franchise Possibilities (Speculation)

By subtrendy, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I know FFG tends to go more serious, but just entertain this idea for half a minute: Futurama . You don't have to be blasting each other up necessarily, but you can tweak existing mission objectives and loosely base them on the episodes. There are a lot of antagonists & allies, so although silly, I truly feel there's plenty of potential here.

That'd be fun! I'd considered The Simpsons as a possibility, too, but I don't know how much goodwill the public has toward them (I still like them!)

Surprised so many people have been saying "Western". From what I have seen, that hasn't been a particularly popular genre for 40 years. Nevertheless

It sounds like you might be interested in the game Shadows of Brimstone, at least based on the theme. I've never played it (so I can't speak to how good/bad it is) but from what I understand it's a dungeon crawler set in an old west world where things are being corrupted buy tentacle-y eldritch creatures.

I HAVE played Brimstone, totally love it. Backed the original kickstarter (which will hopefully FINALLY be fully delivered soon) and have played it a bunch.

Unlike IA, SoB is a co-op game, the players are all working together to beat monsters that operate automatically based on an AI built into the rules.

I have for a long time now very much wanted to convert the Brimstone setting (as Manatee said, its a weird west mixed with nameless horror setting) to the Imperial Assault rules to make the enemies controlled by a player and add a bit more thought to their tactics, and to create some more coherent stories. The Brimstone missions are all largely independent, stand alone things with no over-arching story line, despite the heroes being persistent characters and leveling up over time.

However, that is another game, by another company and so not something FFG would ever officially do. Someone mentioned, though, a concern that westerns wouldn't have enough diversity of hero types, but Brimstone has (I think) 17 different official character classes to choose from and the fanbase has created several more, so I don't think that is an issue.

So who would be the big four. Fry, Leela, Zoidberg, and Bender? Fry does leadership, Leela is like Jyn, Zoidberg could be Onar, and Bender, being the inspiration for HK-47 could be like Fenn. I'll leave you with a scary Zoidberg for inspiration:

Why not Zoidberg?

Rumours is that FFG has some new IPs in the works to fill the gap that GW left. could be an interessting GENCON this year

Something else than the push for Runewars Miniatures?

What other gaps there are? A generic Fury of Vampire? :D

I just bought Forbidden Stars. I hope that new IP will be recreated with the mechanics from FS, such a shame there won't be any expansions...

Stargate... I think IA campaign mechanics would fit the Stargate universe amazingly.

Sorastro is at FFG head quarters right now apparently part of some top secret project they are working on. I imagine it has a Gencon announcement, and if Sorastro is involved you know it has Minis.

They brought him in to paint some of their RuneWars minis already, using Army Painter supplies. So I don't think it is RW again, and the expansions for RW aren't top secret right now anyway.

I think it is something big and brand new and they want him to have some tutorial videos lined up for the roll out.

We can rule out Star Wars, for legal reasons they can't pay him to paint those, or sponsor him I should say. Which is why they reward him in other ways for his brilliant videos.

Could be the minis for the MOM expansion announced today. Licensing shouldn't be an issue for that.

I doubt it, that doesn't seem large scale enough to fly him out there all the way from England for a few minis. I think this is something brand new we haven't seen yet. He described it as a 'future' project.. so that makes me think it is something in the pipeline.

I would love

An Legend of Five rings game

A netrunner game would be awesome( Shadowrun style) with runners, bruisers, cyborgs...

Warlord games put out Test of Honour about two months ago. I'm thinking the Feudal Japan style miniature game is not in any immediate future plans.

Which leaves FFG working Marvel (easiest to do - from a business position), and since all the Warner Bros kit seems to be slowly tied up by Knights Models (Harry Potter, DC Superheroes), and I reckon the horror genre of Dracula (not Vampire, but Drac himself), The Werewolf, Mummy, et al, will be locked up there, I'd love to see a Creature from the Black Lagoon mini.

Runewars is not my thing, but I'd be open to a solid genre or cross-genre game (anyone out there remember Torg the RPG from Wes End Games? Solid cross-genre game with real rich background and structure).

I don't understand. Why can't they pay him to paint the miniatures? What does that have to do with the license?

Nobody mentioned Ninja Turtles yet?

my money is on MARVEL. Knight models lost the licence for their themed miniature game. so maybe some else in bought it.*wink* *wink*.

Not sure, something involving the Star Wars IP they just can't do it, not sure where I read that it might have even been on his Patreon. So instead, they sponsor him through other games. It must have something to do with the production of the videos, maybe Disney would have to get involved and that just creates a whole mess of things.

As a long time fan since childhood with way too many good and bad comics ... this would both excite me and terrify me. I've almost bought into both of Knight Model's miniature game (BMG is a great game), but their product is too difficult to grab in my area and I'm not willing to pay international shipping when I have too many other games that I fully support.

Interestingly, I haven't heard about anybody picking up the license for Marvel RPGs since Margaret Weis & Cam Banks lost the license a few years back. Perhaps FFG picked up the non-collectible miniature gaming license, RPG license, and board games (however, I have no idea where or how Marvel's board game licenses work).

I'm not sure I see LOTR happening as GW has just recently brought back LOTR into things (which I'm really happy about, as SBG is a lot of fun).

Assassin's creed could be a lot of fun, esp. If the tiles could be turned into 3d buildings (taking advantage of the parkour that the games are famous for).

i would like to see Harry Potter alot . But if its not happening maybe something about "Horror". Paranormal things ( not talking about Lovecraft )

Heck yeah. Horribly off topic, but I got to play an extended demo with Ubisoft last week- the new game is so good!

But yeah, the dungeon crawler aspect would work well with AC, plus adding a parkour type of element would let it bring something new to the table (which, while all cool, not all of these games would necessarily be able to do)
