If I had been navigating like i should have been, then yes. Yes I would have.

I can't tell you the number of times that having the wrong command on top of my LMC80 spelled doom for it. Repairing one turn too late, repairing too early, not navigating, etc. Madine when he works is on FIRE. when he doesnt, youre in trouble FAST.

Skilled First Officers? They do come with the LMC80! I loves 'em on my Command 2+ ships!

Then where does Raymus Antilles sit? His corpse is blocking the Officer's chair!

Fair.

It surprised me to see you write that we don't really have Rieekan Aces around here. I've played against Rieekan aces lots of times.

...and then I realized that's because YOU were the one running Rieekan Aces, which means you don't get to play against them, haha. Our other Rebels favor more short-ranged blitz ships.

I am the one who Rieekan Aces.....

Someday, someone is going to bring significant squadrons against me in a match I haven't stumbled into bringing a bunch of squadrons of my own, and it's going to be interesting on my own, trying to listen to the lessons of Past Me.

Hey guys it's TIE Defender time!

There's this outside chance we'll actually be caught up to wave 5 by the time wave 6 drops. I'm not sure I'd bet on it, but it's actually conceivable!

Towards the end of the article you have this sentence: ' Maarek's special ability is quite potent as it allows him to "fix" blue accuracy dice rolled against a ship to a critical icon and can improve his black anti-ship dice when they roll blank.' As Maarek has no black anti-ship dice, I assume you meant black anti-squadron dice. Or am I missing something?

Edited by NobodyInParticular

Nope, that's a typo. Fixing it right now. His black anti-SQUADRON dice. Derp.

My first runs with Defenders, I used them in a three-squad pack with one defender and two interceptors as a nasty alpha-punch bundle commanded by VSDs, the three squads can really tear up other squads and require rather low command investment.

Its really odd seeing someone "negative" on defenders.

Here, they're all the imperial rage and hotness, and so many Rebel Squadron commanders are gnashing teeth... The solid, solid dice coupled with their ability to survive through turns to make continuing attacks....... Hate Defenders so much...

I appreciate the negative in quotation marks because my feelings on them are muddled (no, I mean that honestly). It's moreso that they're good but they're not the be-all-end-all. I see new players get obsessed with Defenders and then just torn apart by regular squadrons because sure those 4 Defenders are pretty cool but a similar investment in generic fighter squadrons, especially used with support, will usually tear them up.

Overall, though, they're much more forgiving of mistakes than TIE Fighters. For sure.

Yeah, I'm sure its a matter for me and my Statistical Abysmal-ness to overcome, but at the moment, they're personally being right on the edge of that insurmountable line in any amount... They take all the punishiment, and just smash you back with all of that reliable damage...

I'm pretty well going to be taking Flight Commander'd Z-95s enmasse next weekend to the Fleet Patrol... See if I can just drown 'em in rerollable reds...

I never really see them all that much up here. We're in a weird meta in Chicago though, in that one store out here (Pastimes) really doesn't run huge squadron blobs, and our store (Fair Game) has.... me, when I feel like it.

Hothgary has always been a Squadron mecca. This generally applies in my view to E-Cloud-City up north as well, but Hothgary has also had a decidedly Imperial Skew for the most part (there was one tournament that was otherwise), but E-Cloud has a greater proportion of Rebel players.

We really saw that with the Corellian Conflicts that were being displayed - almost all of the CCs in Hothgary were won (handily) by Imperials, but Rebels won the Day up there...

So the Dominance of Imperials are continuing here, somewhat, but we'll see how that advances - we've got a Fleet Patrol I'm running on the 28th, and then Store Champs on the 25th of June... As far as I know, the Sentry Box (the one I'm running) is the only locked-in date for Store Champs in Alberta thusfar... So its weird being the first-one-on-the-rack...

We've got a few locals dipping their toes in, though (Nick and Matt are going heavier squadrons, for example; Jeff is a rare sighting but when he does show up its max Rebel squads). I run Rhymerballs on occasion but in general I find Rhymerball builds boring so it's not a long-term thing for me. Our local meta I'd say is squadron-moderate. Pastimes is very squadron-light (suicidally so, I'd argue). At tournaments, though, I've run into a fair number of squadron-heavy fleets. I think 3 of my 4 Adepticon games were versus 100+ points in squads, and 4 of my 6 Regionals games were also against heavy squads.

So I guess what I'm getting at is from a macro-perspective I agree that Fair Game is not cohesively squadron-heavy (although we do see it from time to time) but it's not too rare at the larger Chicagoland level at competitive events.

Can I nitpick the H-6 article and point out that the B-17 Flying Fortress is the aircraft pictured (and a decent analogy) but the B-52 is the Stratofortress and definitely not a propeller aircraft? The BUFF also has thinner defenses than the B-17, so not sure whether the anti-squad part holds up, but that's not terribly relevant.

A misspent youth comes in handy on occasion

I've said this before, but as a new player, (and someone who values multipurpose units in all of his games to a fault)...I love Defenders. Their sheer utility, even if their bombing isn't that great, is just fantastic. I like the more single-purpose TIEs as well, but their propensity for becoming ineffective into certain builds, or just...popping...when they get in an unfortunate place.

I have, however, been finding that more than a couple (say, 2 vanillas, plus Marik) really just takes fistfulls of your points and leaves you without enough proper fighter coverage, so mixed squads has been the way to go. They do form an excellent speartip for other TIEs though.

Also, as a side-note, I have never rolled a blank black die with Steele against another fighter...I get crits and accs on my blues all the time, but his black dice never miss. Stupid 5pt upgrade if you ask me!

I mean for what it's worth those 5 extra points go a lot farther against ships than against other fighters ;).
