New FFG edition vs. Upgrade Pack

By yosemite, in Talisman

Hi, All! I'm becoming more than a bit concerned re. my plan to just buy the Upgrade Pack for my BL 4th edition. From what I'm reading, the new FFG board is different + that edition has new, jazzy counters for Life, Craft, etc. (My mistake...when I ordered the Upgrade Pack at my FLGS, I thought those were included!) DO I understand that the mistakes on the BL board have been corrected on the FFG board? Maybe I should pony up the bucks and just buy the new edition?!?!?!?!?

Is the Upgrade Pack enough to put me in "compliance" with the Reaper and other new expansions or are those just for the FFG version? Thought I had all this worked out, but now I'm SO confused...

I've been a huge fan of the game since 2nd Edition. What to do?!? ANYONE?!? THANKS!

I just purchased the Upgrade Pack today and it features everything needed to play revised edition. The only advantage the full game has over the upgrade is the revised board locations. I.E. the new board wording for graveyard, temple, etc. You'll have to remember the new wording or refer to the rules pamphlet with the upgrade.

Hey, kboleen, since you have the Upgrade Pack and BI 4th edition, care to tell if the cards (Adventure, Spell) are of the same size? Especially with the crappy Raiders, I'll be wanting to use the BI version, but then some added Craft enemies would be nice as well. If the backs don't match, that's not a big deal, I grew up with Finnish version of Talisman + English Adventure expansion (black & white vs light green backs).

To add something to this topic,

I advise most players to buy the whole Revised edition game, instead of buying the upgrade pack for their Black Gates version !

The upgrade pack do not include the new board with the new text on it.

So you must write it on a piece of paper then.

So, if you don't want this problem, then you can better keep your money and buy the whole Revised edition gui%C3%B1o.gif

PS: The Revised board is larger than the Black Gates version

Ok, on the previous post it should read "Black Industries" instead of "black gate" and I would advise to buy both the "new edition + the upgrade pack" so that you can tweak some of your least favorite cards with the Strange Eons program.

Variety is the spice of life and Talisman gran_risa.gif

Oops, my mistake sonrojado.gif

I always said Black Gates lengua.gif

Well, i can't change it anymore lol gui%C3%B1o.gif happy.gif

I bought the Black Industries 4th edition, applied the excellent sticker revision to the board from Van and with the 4th edition upgrade pack and it's perfect.

The pros are that we have the cardboard players which the kids love (me as well) and the minitures from the expension. It was also cheaper.

The cons are the attribute numbered squares were not replaced with the cones and the Black Industries box does not fit the new cards. The problem was solved (or got worse) when I got the Reaper and Dungeon expansions, had to take the insert out of the box and was able to put everthing into the Dungeon box (both boards)

Also, on the topic of the boards, both boards are very large, both are impressive. I can barely fit the BI board with the dungeon expansion on the table as it is, let alone when more expansion come available. The size of the board I do not believe to be a facture (and is not a problem with the dungeon board either, fits nice).

I have no regrets getting the BI edition

Are there stickers in the upgrade pack who have the new text for the board spaces??

No Velhart, there is no stickers with the upgrade box and no plastic cones llorando.gif

The Black Industries edition was also very nice to own (I still have mine).

The only thing that bugs me with the upgrade is the missing plastic cones!!

No Plastic cones??

Are you kidding sorpresa.gif

Wow, that's very bad then because the cones from black industries sucks a lot.

Another reason to buy the revised edition !!

Yes I was very fond of the cones I got with the 3rd edition back then, and I saw the Black Industries edition was going for plastic token with unreadable number stamp on them (still better than the cardboard from 1st and 2nd edition since they are more durable but very hard to handles) enfadado.gif

As a matter of fact, I'm using the revised and 3rd edition cones on my games, all mixed together as they are the same colour and size. aplauso.gif

Overall FFG is doing a very good job of picking the best from old editions and bring new fresh ideas to Talisman.

My only complain would be that waiting between expansions is killing me enfadado.gif

Yeah, but we must give FFG the chance to produce those awesome expansions !!

I agree Velhart but the waiting is still killing me demonio.gif demonio.gif

no, I made the board sticker updates from a template posted by Van on boardgamesgeek and printing them on label sheet paper. Looks perfect.

Oke thanks for the information !

If players have these problems, i can adressed them to boardgamegeek to look at those templates... cool.gif

I've just added those templates to the Download section of Talisman Island. I have no idea why I didn't do it before as Van sent them to me an absolute age ago!

Oke, good to know. gran_risa.gif

For templates.. let's take the boat to Talismanisland then cool.gif Look out for sharks demonio.gif
