So with the hype of Clan articles coming, but so much time in between them, who are some of the named characters from that era who were alive and interesting enough to get a new version? I freely admit that I'm just spinning my hype wheels while we wait.

I'll take a stab at Scorpion.

Bayushi Shoju

Bayushi Kachiko

Bayushi Aramoro

Bayushi Dairu (possibly with a completely different backstory)

Bayushi Goshiu

Bayushi Tangen

Bayushi Yojiro

Shosuro Hametsu

Yogo Asami

Yogo Junzo

We already known one of the Scorpion unique characters is Yugo Hiroue. I also don't see how they cannot include Bayushi Kachiko. Additionally, FFG has mentioned Bayushi Shoju by name.

Other people mentioned specifically in previous articles:

All of these people are fairly obvious from what I understand, however, I can't see FFG branching too far out from a few "main" characters. We do know they'll add a few, Isawa Masahiro and Yugo Hiroue for example, but I think the total number of unique characters is going to be quite low.

Tadaka, Tsuke and Kaede are the one's I would most like to still see.

I wasn't really talking about in the core box, more like over the course of the first story arc. I do eventually expect clan rosters to get fleshed out, both with previously named and completely new characters.

I think at least half the characters will be completely new inventions with only a handful of key characters returning.

I agree. With so many generic unnamed characters, we probably won't see more than 4 or 5 named characters per clan in the Core Set.

That is still probably going to be quite a limited number compared to Old5R. I wouldn't expect a huge roster of unique characters for each clan even after the first couple cycles.

I personally am looking forward to new characters and their stories, and so far FFG had already showed us some uniques with names we didn't had before, so now I want their stories.

But if I have to put a name out there that I would like to return, then this would be Kakita Toshimoko, I liked that old dude, and hope he is now teacher of Doji Hotaru, and I wonder how these two work together now with her being -well- not Hoturi.

The original elemental masters, toku, Mirutomo Hitomi, Yoritomo, Kitsune Ryosei, Mukami (can they basically just reprint the original?).

That would be my shortlist

This was never "my" era and I'm not at all attached to the memory of any of the characters from this period except maybe Tadaka- and it's possible that the Thunders aren't a thing this time around, so... but still. I loved his look. And lending the Crab a hand.

Never cared for Tsuke, Ujimitsu, or the other Phoenix heavies from this period (not least because those clodhoppers lie at the root of the tiresome, "Phoenix love maho LOL" garbage), and my investment in the Pre-Coup/Clan War personalities of other clans is even lower.

That's not garbage to some of us...... particularly the belief that blood magic could be purified again. Foolish as that may seem to others. It is our roots.

All clans should be susceptible to falling prey to the temptations of using the power of Jigoku. The Phoenix clan's susceptibility is just one of the more obvious ones.

Hopefully although maho and shadow ninja powers and berserker taint might not be in the base set, they should start appearing in early expansions.

They have already hinted at the Phoenix looking in places they should not be.....

We know that you can pick only one Clan to spend your influence on conflict cards. I wouldn't mind if Shadowlands Corruption was represented in this way: pick Shadowlands, get Shadowlands Conflict cards.

Would not be easier to lure people by allowing them to use neutral corrupt characters in their dinasty in addition to any corrupt conflict cards? With only influence, the corruption presence would have to compete with other clan stuff and depend on having in-clan corrupt stuff. Could say the same for Kolat cards or Ninja ones.

Not that I do not like your idea. Probably cleaner and easier to balance.

I would also like some clan specific corrupted cards. I think every clan had someone who was secretly tainted at some point.

While I'm sure we'll see clan-aligned corrupted characters at some point, I'd prefer it to wait for a bit before appearing in the new game. It's something that felt a bit overused in the old game and that I'd like to be a little less common now.

Edit: After looking through the Oracle of the Void, it seems there were not that many clan-aligned Shadowlands personalities. I'm really suprised, I would have bet there were a lot more.

Tsuke went bad, yes, but Ujimitsu was clean. In fact, it was Ujimitsu that helped Tadaka kill Tsuke on the Second Day of Thunder, and Ujimitsu received a mortal wound in the process.

What I mean is, our honored champion's name is not one to be spoken ill of. #waytoointothestoryandcharacters

honestly, I do not expect a lot of the big name characters in the base set, more likely in the follow clan specific packs. I think its because FFG lets thier base set be legal, for a long long time. so putting major clan characters like daiymo and such makes it harder to put in new ones should they die later on

In the Facebook Q&A they made it very clear that this isn't something they're concerned with. Nor should it be. The core set will be packed with name characters, just like Game of Thrones was.

Neutral characters sound OK, but as far as balancing and "tagging as Shadowlands" for, say, tournament victories, I think "Influence: SHADOWLANDS" is much better than "Clan Shadowlands" or "playing ogre bushi out of Crane box" :P.

Taint sounds like something that would work very well for "Dragon style" voltroning your personalities with strong attachements...or debuff attachements for more Scorpion style play.

I guess I am in the old mindset of no Shadowlands cards equals pure, 1 to 3 Shadowlands cards equals tainted, and 4+ Shadowlands equals corrupted. With some Shadowlands being auto-corrupt.

I'd almost like one of the small packs was just a small assortment of minor clans that you can splash into great clan decks.

Dynasty packs are going to be, almost certainly:

60 cards, at a full playset of 3 copies of 20 new cards. So, 20 new cards.

2 new cards per clan eat up 14 slots.

There will be 3-4 new neutral cards for up to, say, 17-18 slots.

Then each clan will take turns being featured in the release schedule. They'll get +1 (maybe even +2) card slots. Rarely, a clan might be reduced to only 1 card slot in a pack if they got a whole bunch of theirs early. That will take care of the final slots.

So each month your clan will get, on average, 2 new cards to play around with.
