2 more factions! 2 more factions!

By Dett Starley, in X-Wing

Let's go for it guys! The Prequels and the Clone Wars cartoon gave us lots of great ships and I want them on my shelf. The republic ships (separatists) are great and I think the droid ships would be great too. Although I think that maybe the droid faction would be pretty thin on variety.

I would like the Clone Wars ships to (slowly) come to this game as Rebellion Era ships (like the ARC-170), not as new faction's ships.

Subfactions, yes. Primary factions? No.

Not just no, but F@$& no.

They cant fix and balance what they do have let alone add in 2 new factions

Almost all the prequel ship are tiny space go carts compared to the old Trilogi ships. I Personally have no interest in those ships. Same with the new Wookie Gunships, designwise they are just so far from the classic Star Wars aestethics I prefere.

I hope to hell not.

They would have to be power creepingly good to see a table which means it would even further push away the older stuff we would all rather play.

Yeah!

The Clone Wars opens up a lot of new design space in terms of ship design, but it's hard to get everything on the table. For instance, Vulture droids (by lore) should be around 9 points, but having potentially 22 ships in a 100/6 game may prove difficult. I could certainly see the ships Jedi and Sith fly (Delta-7, Eta-2, Solar Sailer and Bladeship) being introduced. The biggest problem though is that the Republic has virtually all jedi and clones, whereas the CIS universally used droids, which makes unique pilots a bit of a challenge.

As I said how would these faction be integrated in an effective manner for X-wing. For the Scum the solution was borrowing ships form the other two but again that was when there was only 10 ships per faction so Scum with their 6 was not far behind. For the NT movie releases the 2 new factions were for all practicality in standard merely aesthetic and were simply put into existing factions as factions were reorganized into "Primary Factions". However with those Primary Factions there is the question in which faction would the prequel subfactions be in. Sure the CIS was on the "Dark Side" but politically they are more aligned with the Rebels.

I think the ARC-170 is the post-de-facto of all prequel ships coming into X-wing. Prequel ships will make it into X-wing but not as their own faction but instead adopted into the existing subfactions.

More Star Wars ships? Well, alright, I'm in.

Would the ARC-170 get a card update release like Most Wanted to get some Republic pilot cards?

Maybe after two more films we can get the Resistance and the First Order as factions in their own right.

Republic ships aren't that hard to implement. You can give them to the Rebels, like the ARC-170, or to the Empire (these ships didn't just disappear when Palpatine took over).

CIS however will likely not happen, as much as that saddens me. There aren't enough ships for a full fledged faction (and more won't appear in the foreseeable future) and most of them don't really fit into any of the existing factions, although some ships will likely appear (Rebels will certainly get the Nemoidian shutle for example)

This would be a good way to implement x wing 2.0. Those era ships really have no place in x wing and a few above outlined why but this might make an interesting second game to coexist with x wing, using prequel and clone wars ships but nothing more modern than rots. There would be some cross-over arc's currently and possibilities exist that could go both ways but, contrary to what some think, we didn't need 3 we sure as heck don't need 5.

I don't know, based on some of the primary backers of the CIS (Trade Federation, Banking Clan, etc) I'd say there is a reasonable case for putting them in Scum.

To me Scum seems more like a gathering of mercenaries and outlaws. CIS droids don't seem to fit either of those.

Just make a new prequel x-wing based game.

Would make for lack of xwing 2.0

No thank you.

I still think backers of the CIS, such as the Trade Federation, falls under the umbrella of corrupt corporation, which is only slightly removed in my mind from crime organizations like the Black Sun, who are already a part of Scum.

Another way to view CIS is as part of the Rebellion, as both were trying to get out from under a corrupt/oppressive regime.

neither solution is perfect, but it is a way to bring those ships in. Plus, there is talk about CIS droid ships getting bought up and repurposed by pirates, so there is that option as well.

I think making them separate games would doom them to fail. And there are plenty of reasons to justify those ships showing up against ot and nt ships (mores so than Vader and Kylo Ren showing up in the same engagement and being shot down by Porkins and his E-Wing escort that everyone seems fine with). And yes, too many factions can hurt a game, but so can too few as it leads to bloat within those factions.

My vote would be to make them subfactions at first (CIS with Rebels and Republic with Empire), then wean them off into their own factions when they have enough ships.

There is also the team up in Rebels.

A little small scale to stand on its own, but still an added point in favor of Rebels and CIS coming together in X-Wing.

Hell no.
