Let me tell you a story about another FFG game. I play the BSG board game a lot with my RL friends and I think between Colonel Tigh's two abilities we've used them literally once (I think) (also his set of skill cards and his drawback are noticeably worse than average). Despite that two of my friends have him on the short list of heroes to play by default, not because they don't understand that he's bad but because:
- he's the favorite character from the show of one of them (who likes to get invested in psuedo roleplaying aspect of the game)
- the other has power fantasies of when she might actually get to use his miracle ability and be both president and admiral (the reason this doesn't happen is that the mechanics of the game mean that the president and admiral being different people is usually to the benefit of the group to the extent that anyone who unilaterally decided to use the ability would be assumed to be a cylon and brigged)
I have two points here:
- Your apparent assertion here that people have most fun when they play in the way that makes them most likely to win simply isn't true for a lot of people
- Let's hypothetically accept that any end goal you could want to accomplish with Loku could be done better with another hero, there are equivalent things that are much worse than him and putting the label of useless of him undermines that.
(Honestly I've been thinking of this since I saw how this thread has evolved and I'm just happy to have an excuse to mention it).
