Templates

By clanofwolves, in X-Wing

I'm not good enough to score tourney templates, but my third set of cardboard are starting --what am I saying, have been-- tearing up through heavy use. Oddly, the sharp and easy 5s look great!

Anyway, what's my best source for a set, I'm not picky as long as they're FFG acceptable.

Thanks guys!!

...I've googled it, and there's a metric plethora of them out there, I need help, so I get a great set.

I use cog o two templates but love the look of the team covenant ones!

I wish ffg would have sold a deluxe starter with acrylic templates. It is the most likely to wear of anything in the box and it would have made the second starter each I bought at least more justifiable. I don't know if they are ffg legal but team covenant does make some nice ones.

Team Covenant are good, and probably most popular. I recently picked up a set from Kracken skull games and they are pretty good and a little cheaper than TC.

Depends on where you are. From Germany I can recommend Miracle Versands one, no idea if they still make them, though.

Curled paw from etsy. You can custom order too! Litko is nice too.

I've won some Curled Paw and they're great! I've bought from Applied Perspective and they may be my favorite ever (radiant chromatic whatever you call it). Early on I bought Litko, and if you're just trying to get sturdy and reliable ones on the cheap they are probably your best bet.

If money is a consideration I would say start with Litko templates and range rulers.

Git Gud and score some Krayt templates. Easiest way is 100-0 Chris Allen, but he drops after first two rounds so you have to get lucky in the pairings early in the tournament.

If you're UK based cog o two are the guys to go to. The colour can be changed if you like the pattern or you can get complete custom stuff. I've got two sets and they have been brilliant

Sounds like an elusive side boss in an RPG who drops awesome rare loot... or flees the battle. Except it's an arrogant scrub who drops cruddy loot.

SKREEEEEEEEEE!

Curled paw templates and rulers are actually less expensive than litho I think

Just ordered some of those earlier this week. Can't wait to get them.

Euro based in general, they're great. I'm in Ireland and have gotten about a dozen orders from them at this point, all of them with some sort of custom request. Great to deal with. Got a chance to meet them at Nationals last year, and they recognised me based on my custom orders. I think that says a hell of a lot about them.
I'm pretty sure they do worldwide shipping, but I know the shipping over to Ireland was virtually nothing.

I still love my simple Litko templates I've had since near the beginning of the game. (I have fluorescent green etched with "Your lack of faith disturbs me," and fluorescent orange edged with "The Force will be with you. Always.") They're very precise, and less expensive than most places. (Also, I lost one of them very soon after my order. I wrote Litko asking how much to replace a single template, and they sent me a replacement -- etched! -- without cost. I thought that was a pretty classy customer service move.)

I've actually been thinking of getting a purple Scum set. I'm not sure what I'd get etched on them, though. "He's no good to me dead"?

^ "No disintegrations" seems apt.

"He doesn't like you"

Then a range template

"I don't like you either"

I'm a big fan of Applied Perspective.

I bought the clear likto templates over 2 years ago and I really love them.

I'm happy with my Applied Perspective templates. Reasonable price.

I'm hoping to supplement them with some Store Championship template prizes... :D

We have 2 sets of Cog o Two and love them. I bought my son's as a birthday gift last winter and threw some in for myself while I was at it. I tried using my FFG orange templates once, but I went back to my better looking white and gold ones :)

To extend the life of the card board templates, seal the edges with PVA glue using your finger or a toothpick or cheap acrylic brush you wish to throw away. This works for the tokens as well. There was a recent thread even on BGG General forum talking about this method which many have used not just for X-Wing.

I currently own 3 sets of other templates, and eventually have a fourth on the way and I'm STILL debating ordering new templates from curled paw. Just got a new set of range rulers from them to paint to match my ship (had 3 sets of those too with another on the way). I love their dial covers too and have them for all my most used ships. And ship markers, and mobilenarc indicator, and...
