Stupid Starship Tricks

By Kaiden Anova, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hello all. I'm playing a Starfighter Ace with a 4 Agilty, 4 Piloting, and almost all the talent tree options chosen, so considering how few Force users there are in the world I should be one of the best pilot's in the galaxy. A big starfighter combat session is coming up, so I was thinking about some tricks I can use to reflect my character's ability. I've learned alot from the, "Order 66 Podcast- Great Sam! Don't Get Cocky!" but was wondering what starfighter tricks other players have been using?

With the minion rules for opponents one of my favorite tricks is to kick my freighter up to speed 5 and on the next turn let my gunners shoot first, (we usually all get initiative before minion tie pilots) then take two maneuvers to go from close to long range. That way we get shots on the ties, but minions not having strain for two maneuvers usually have to sacrifice their action to catch up to close range. Without their action they can't get any shots on us. My GM probably won't let me get away with this much, but it is also useful for non minions. It puts strain on their ships that have lower thresholds than a freighter.

Their are other good tricks, like putting your shields all forward and gaining the advantage. The enemy is probably shooting at your front, or at least it's a fifty/fifty chance. With two Intuitive Evasions talents it may not even pay to use evasive maneuvers anymore, but that's off topic. I wanted to see what the community thought about this, and if there are any other tricks out there that anyone could recommend.
