Variable firing Arcs

By Payens, in Star Wars: Armada

So been thinking about the firing arcs of navel vessels and of some of the ships we see in the starwars universe. Some ships have a gun or several guns that have a variable firing arc. Like the Classic Battleship has the big guns that could basically shoot in a 180 degree arc left , right. or straight on. If you look at the Star Wars universe you have ships like the CR 90 in Xwing the turret can fire basically 360 degrees. I realize that is hard to translate into this game which is why they have set firing arcs that are probably pretty generous and different kind of depending how those guns can move.

But I think it would be cool if they had some ships where you could rotate some of the die to different arcs or something like that. For example say on the CR90 base you could have a set of dotted lines with say 2 red die. Then if you are attacking a ship that is within those dotted lines you could add the 2 red dice when shooting at a ship. So say you could shoot a ship from the front and side arc ... you could add the 2 red dice to either of those arc shots. Or if it is in the side arc and still in the dotted line arc then you could add the 2 red die to that 1 shot.

Might need some graphics on a base to help explain my idea but thoughts?

Maybe that's what's happening already. Let's look at the following:

RB RB

You could extrapolate that the red die on either side can be focused for a frontal attack.

Of course this is just me pulling an idea out of my pocket while I wait to leave the office on this sunny Friday afternoon. But seeing as every ship has die colors that are repeated in more than one arc, it's not hard to imagine that kind of idea is what's happening. Also, I think adding half-arcs just adds a level of confusion that this game doesn't need, the current standard method for verifying if a shot can be taken is convoluted enough.

On ISDs, VSDs, and Raiders the side arcs add up to the front arc in dice number. It doesn't work for all ships, since the Interdictor, Gladiator, Arquitens and Gozanti aren't like that, nor are most of the Rebel ships. Plus the dice type change:

ISD-I: sides are 4 Red, 4 Black total, for a sum of 8, whereas front is 3 Red, 2 Blue, 3 Black, for a sum of 8.

So it could be taken as a similar concept, but it doesn't quite work out. I think the best one can hope for is an upgrade like:

'You can only attack once per round. When you attack, add the battery armament of 1 adjacent arc to your attack pool.'

I always assumed the dice and each arc factored into the mobility of the turrets/canons.

Yes and if you want a way of some of those cannons contributing in adjacent arcs in the game then look no further than Slaved Turrets.
