Adventure #62 - Long Live the King

Pennants have 16 units, Standards have 15 - Is there a missing Standard unit? (Adventures 59, 60, 61 have 15v15 or 16v16)

Looking through the unused units after setting up, it appears that the standards should receive an additional medium cavalry unit.

Anyone else notice this? Concur? Disagree? Don't care? :)

Not all scenarios have an equal number of units each side.

Some have more green to counter a fewer number of red etc.

That said, there have been (very few) occasions where the official scenarios have mistakes. Not saying that this is one them, but it is possible.

The units used are very evenly balanced - # green, #blue, #red, cav vs foot, except that the standards have 1 less unit - and it seems to be a blue cavalry

JP

the number of Red infantry is different too. Why do you think something is wrong or would you rather play even match ups on symetrical terrain in each game ?

why are we even having this discussion ?

eh, I don't have anything better to talk about ;)

And, yes, the scenario looks like a "traditionally (im)balanced" battlelore adventure: pennants have three blue and one red mounted, while standards have one blue and two red; to offset this imbalance (which I would not call unbalanced, by the way - sometimes numbers are more important than strength), pennants have five blue short sword and two red, while standards have six blue and one red. That follows what would should percipitate a fairly even outcome - neither side has a glaring advantage to begin.

no worries...just looked a little... 'off' to me

Most Commands & Colors scenarios are not balanced in any way. They also represent very specific battles and so usually reflect those circumstances. BattleLore is unique in that 1) most battles are not historically grounded and 2) they have been pretty well balanced.

That is not to say that all of them should be. 15 vs. 16 is most likely correct. I would say their is no justification in claiming one side is shorted.
