L5R Live

By Kakita Shijin, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

I presume the live stream on facebook today will be available later for me to watch. If not, or since I'm not sure about it, would someone mind capturing it for me? Thanks!

...i don't see the stream on Facebook. :(

Such is life...

Watching it now. They just said that they can't talk about multiplayer yet.

That's a good sign that it will exist eventually. I assume it will be Siege/Warlord/Archenemy style.

I haven't figured out the live thing yet, so I kept popping in and out of it. Here's what I got:

1. First fiction next week.

2. Two player now. Aren't talking multiplayer yet (sounds like it'll happen eventually?)

3. Good luck getting this at GenCon. Only a "few" people will be getting them.

4. Still no Mantis mention. :(

5. Dueling is still confusing flavor-wise.

6. You cannot attack an already broken province.

7. Fate economy is pretty flat.

I saw the whole thing but didn't think to take notes, but here's some stuff I remember:

8. Clan previews will be bi-weekly, starting with Crane next week.

9. We will get the first fiction(s?) next week. (Duplicate information from above.)

10. There will be more live events like today.

Rules-wise:

11. Bowed cards can use abilities as long as they don't require bowing to use.

12. Abilities do not require a character to be at a conflict unless specifically mentioned.

13. Broadly speaking, a design philosophy was that bushi and courtiers would have to be at a conflict to affect it, while shugenja generally do not (but this is just a design philosophy, not a rule.)

14. Specifically, Isawa Masahiro can burninate stuff from home.

15. Clan champions for all seven clans will be in the core set.

16. Out of clan cards in your deck are based on influence scores (like we assumed) but also limited to one other faction, and conflict deck only (also like we assumed.)

17. All AEG fiction and lore (including the world/setting stuff) is no longer canon.

What have I missed?

I wonder if they meant to say they will start with the Crab, but I am totally fine if they indeed start with my favourite clan.

You mean the traditional alphabetical order?

In the image spoiled at Cannes, Crane was the first mon. It makes perfect sense to start with the best clan then the remaining ones in alphabetical order. =)

Also, is it just me or did it seem like the person in charge of choosing the questions from the stream comments made a mistake by touching on multiplayer at all?

Points 11 and 12 just added that much more 'umph' to deck design.

EDIT: Abilities just went up a rung or two in the ladder of card selection...

Cloud the Mind is starting to look better and better.

Hmmm, a story line prize at Gencon. Need to start planning right away.

Influence - He said you can include cards from "one other clan" into your Conflict deck. Interesting. He even emphasized it, one other clan.

Single clan splash is the biggest rules update outside of "-" value characters going home bowed immediately if they ever participate in a conflict of that type.

Yeah, those are both HUGE.

Yeah, that means there's 42 possible combos.

There's going to be a mulligan mechanic so you get the possibility to get 'rid' of unwanted cards in your hand or province at the start of the game.

They did want to explore places outside of Rokugan (Legend of the Burning Sands, Ivory Kingdoms, etc.). Eventually, of course.

They also want to have diversity in age or gender groups, so people mad or confused at the Otomo Courier should pass that to the developers. This also is the reason for certain characters getting gender swapped.

Just to be clear for british english users, the clan focus will be biweekly as fortnightly, not twice per week.

I haven't watched it yet and can't watch it right now. While I see that characters don't need to be at the conflict to use their abilities unless otherwise stated, did they say whether you need anyone there at all? Can you cast spells into a conflict where you don't have an army?

The question wasn't asked and they didn't say anything about it, so we don't know yet.
