Gold Squadron released a statement from Parker Guidry

By Holmelund, in X-Wing

Quote

I immediately appoligised to my opponent for my misconduct and we where able to shake hands over a moment we would both wish had never happend.

And yet podcaster clearly states that his opponent learned from him (the podcaster) after the game...

You smell that...? Smell like pile of BS to me.

If it was unintentional cheating due to nervousness(sure...) then he should have handed his opponent the dial after noticing. He didn't though, so clearly his "commitment to fair play" is a very recent one.

I appreciate GSP for making a statement regarding this incident and accept Parker's apology for his role in this. He has received enough from the community and is not the cause of everyones anger. Everyone is upset over the lax handling of his actions by the judging staff when it was discovered. The wronged party wasn't compensated correctly for his opponents infraction until way after the event had passed, and only because it turned into a big PR problem for FFG.

Dion is right. FFG does need to produce Floor Rules. If we had floor rules in place we could have watched the judge hand out out the correct penalty as per the floor rules. If it wasn't a just penalty then we can petition FFG to change the floor rules for a stiffer penalty for that infraction. The rule then gets the distaste and anger and not the human being (i.e. the judge) who had to make something up on the fly with little direction.

Currently X-wing has infractions but no set penalty if you break them. FFG, please release a set of Floor Rules for X-wing so players know what penalties they face for committing an infraction at the tier level they are playing and judges have a set of guidelines for the penalties that they assess.

I think this has been the biggest surprise so for, for such a successful International competitive game..... There arent any basic rules for infractions. other than, it's up to the TO's

Parker:
"First of all I told the judges all that I know about the incident and my own charachter. It was not my intention to cheat using my dial, but i absolutely broke the rules of the game by picking it up during the turn and altering it nervously, forever changing the games state.
It was a mistake and I deserve to be diciplined for my infraction and I still accept their judgment as fair and necesary.
The event is a blemish on my otherwise exemplary record of honesty and commitment to fair play and I immediately appoligised to my opponent for my misconduct and we where able to shake hands over a moment we would both wish had never happend.
I also want to apologise to your podcast and viewership. I know taht you did not want your cast of the tournament to be dominated even briefly by something so unrelated to the competetion at hand. You did not deserve to have your time taken by my mistake.
I also want to thank you sincerely for your insistant that I not be witchhunted and your viewership to trust in the judges ruling. In that moment I learned something about your dedication to a positive community and it is out of this respect to your podcast that I make this statement. Thank you very much for your time and concideration."

This rings so hollow to me. He knew what he was doing. It was calculated.

But it's done. A punishment was dealt (whether you agree with what it was or not).

Hopefully from this FFG will put in place a stricter guide for TO's at events so this can be felt with better in the future

"I was nervous"

I find that answer vague and unconvincing.

"I am altering the dial, pray I do not alter it any further"

You get a gold star. ⭐ ?

The more I think about it, the more I think FFG aren't going to do anything and players will just have to get used to the idea that cheating happens.

I can't really see a scenario where FFG are able to effectively police & punish cheating.

Well bud, If I was in your place I would either

a) Shut up not to make things any worst

b)Come up with an proper apology that does not sound like a kid apologizing when got caught with his hands in the honey pot.

You are not making yourself favors when you are including excuses about things that cannot be excused in your idea of apology.

Thanks everyone who blew this into a full-fledged conspiracy/act of treason.
As Gold Sq. Podcast says, third-party live streams "aren't supposed to be [at these events]" -- so if this continues to be a ****ing national tragedy to all of you keyboard warriors, FFG will likely squash all live streams going forward.

If FFG kills streaming over THEIR OWN FAILURE to handle this properly...heh...GW too though they can do anything some time ago and people will still give their money nevertheless - and it almost costed them the company.

His statement is insincere and a half-hearted attempt to weasel out of what was clearly a deliberate cheat. I'd honestly be surprised if anyone wanted to play aginst him again, which would be a punishment far worse than anything FFG could hand out.
However, it's over now, and the best thing to do is leave it there. It's unfortunate for the opponent he cheated out of a win, because they still get screwed, but the 'witch hunt' is just ridiculous and needs to stop at once.

From a pure business point of view it's free advertising for thier games. To ban third party streams when they haven't got enough spare people to stream everything is crazy. It would be a complete own goal of they did it.

I can see them doing it though, it depends whose making the decision as a very corporate view would be "why are we allowing these people to make our game look bad, we should be controlling how our games are publicised".

You're right, if that person exists. I would hope FFG realise that the cheating wasn't what made the game look bad (that makes an individual look bad). I think the lack of set guide lines for this exact thing is what made them look bad and that's easy to fix for next time.

Is he American? The American approach to ego and language can make things sound worse than they intended I think.

Bless him.

I don't buy his alternate facts.

Don't think many do.

However he now needs to stand by whatever story he sold to FFG OP.

That, and it's really not his fault. FFG didn't punish him enough. None of the other cheaters who got banned got this amount of flak.

Iirc the German guy coped to it straight away and the ban seemed fair so no flak needed. This has been different

I hate everything about this. The blatant showmanship of announcing it was coming hours in advance, the lackluster apology and the BS that it was not on purpose. That was completely on purpose.

As I recall, he first tried to defend the cheat on some german forum with a sock puppet account.

Hey now, dont make gold squadron podcast the bad guys here. Seriously, the amount of stuff they do for this community is close to unparalleled.

That I didn't know

In what way did I make them bad guys ??? I don't like the showmanship. That's a criticism. Not making them a bad guy. There is one very clear "bad guy" in this situation.

You might be thinking of the Conquest guy that cheated at Nationals. He did that on CGDB.
