What if X-wing had wave formats?
Such as open for all waves or waves 1-3 for classic format.

I would imagine you would then just have people complaining about whatever the dominant meta in that format (whisper/fat turrets/etc) was

Ball of sunshine over here...
Right. The community would splinter into "Classic" and "Premier" circuits or whatever.
@Joe Boss Red Seven
becoming the leader of the casual, fun, "Classic" league, while
@ficklegreendice
and
@ParaGoomba Slayer
would lead crusades on each other in the "Premier" trenches (FFG Forums).
It would be interesting to see what the Wave 4-5 meta would look like with large ship scoring rules and phantom nerf implemented
I would also love theme formats to become standardized or more popular. I know a few stores did Original Trilogy ships only format tournaments for May the 4th. It would be cool to do tournaments where you couldn't mix First Order with Empire or Resistance with Rebels (maybe once each sub faction has a few more ships).
I think it would be interesting to try this but people are correct that the old metas would just resurface. I like the idea of limiting ships and I personally love and support any format that eliminated scum completely.
I can't remember where I heard about this, but I love the idea of a format where you bring two lists and your opponent chooses which they want to play. You play the other. Alternate whose lists are used every round.
It has problems with player matchups, I think, so maybe not great for super competitive events, but it sounds so fun.
I like the idea of formats more then second edition. The way it's implemented is what decides if it lives or dies though
