Kinda like the art for the new Banzai card, except 100x better. Hopefully alternate art cards are a thing.

You mean this art?
Yeah, I can't say I'm a fan of that piece.
I have always wondered what that guy's plan is, exactly?
I mean, sure, it looks awesome. But he is roughly 0.5 seconds away from getting skewered on, roughly, all of the spears.

But then again, I'm partial to dragons of most kinds. ?
I'm not even partial... I think when it comes to L5R, I am exclusively dragon.

Perfect. They wil not be able to use those spears anymore!

Well, based on the art he is a Scorpion clan samurai. Based on what he is doing he is most likely a Bitter Lies student, which means that in the next 0.3 seconds each one of the spear holders will have the uncontrollable urge to sneeze and he will kill them all.

As you said - she is wearing proper armor (and that's great) but in completely improper way.
Why would Crab samurai armor when they have reduction? The better you are the more your skin becomes armor so for the Crab ess is more?

-Shrug-.
I studied kenjutsu for several years (as well as a few forms of 'kung fu',, and some Chinese and Japaese history and mythology). Also, I had a friend that was into sword and armor smithing.
Sure, there's a tendency for the internet to be full of "experts" on every subject. I'm certainly not an expert on the subject, but what I said about katana was true.

I just think it's interesting how different it is from, say, a forum about a Star Wars game. I don't think I've ever seen a discussion break down into claims about how someone should be holding or aiming a blaster, or why a lightsaber pose as depicted in a piece of art is poor form or why that mercenaries Mandalorian armor wouldn't be very practical. Like, I'm sure lots of players of Star Wars games have also played paintball, own or fire handguns and rifles, and some have likely studied various forms of sword fighting.
I suppose it's just the nature of L5R that taps into many of our shared collective interests in feudalistic Japan and that period of warfare or martial arts. Maybe we also perceive L5R as being more "realistic" than Star Wars, though Star Wars is just basically WWII era tech "IN SPACE" (cue dramatic music), and the Force is in many ways far less impressive and fantastical than what shugenja can do or some magical items (e.g. Isawa's Last Wish). L5R also has its fair share of supernatural or fantastical elements, since it's so rife with magic, oni, blessings, kiho, imbued tatooes, ancestral guidance, and magic-infused weaponry and armor.

The tactics of Bitter Lies students is all about doing this - attack in a crazy, unpredictable way (usually while laughing madly) and just kinda see how things go. The scary thing is, it worked . Or you died. Either way, fun story.
On another note, I'm banging my head against the wall trying to find the artist for this piece. I think it's from one of the early sourcebooks - can anyone help me out?

I know it's Kage, but who does the art?

A samurai does not fear enemies or death. When his end comes, it comes in glory and valor. It comes as a legend.
Now we know how that sake house brawl started.!
Mario Wibisomo's L5R Deviant Art Page is absolutely amazing. Look there if you haven't already. Lots of prime wallpaper candidates.

Definitely one of my favorite artists! I hope FFG keeps him for new stuff.

Indeed, an amazing artist. Otomo Suikihime is still one of my favorite art pieces from him.

No story. Steve Argyle (the artist) was just fond of constantly making all the women in Rokugan into setting-inappropriate 'hotties'. He's a very talented artist, but work like the 'emporium of totally sexy babes!' is ridiculous for L5R. Fans of this style went so far as to push the idea (only half-jokingly) that the Shadowlands taint made women into uber-babes.

This is due to Chuda Ruri who got hotter as she gained xp.

It's a fantasy setting, meaning spears are the most worthless of all weapons, even at their intended purpose.
I mean, look at the movie of The Two Towers. You have the Rohirrim charging down a slope at a bunch of Uruks armed with 20-foot pikes forming a spear wall, and the Rohirrim manage to drive them off while barely getting bloody themselves!
Real life? Spears are incredibly effective (to this day, our military still has bayonets for their rifles).
Fantasy setting? You're probably better off armed with a chopstick or a fishhook.

Eh, most female characters took levels in "teh sexay" as they gained versions... I cannot tell you how happy I was when Tsukimi started to get old- still improbably good-looking, of course, but at least she wasn't progressing ever-deeper into artist fantasy turf...
Not actually crazy about the art, but that flavor text almost brought a tear to my eye
