BEST Campaign?

By patrickmahan, in Imperial Assault Campaign

So which Campaign do you think is the most balanced?

Which Campaign do you think is the most fun?

Which Campaign do you think is the most thematic?

Which Campaign do you think is the absolute BEST of all?

I want to hear opinions.

This is still on the front page of the campaign page.

Hopefully that answers some of your questions.

Well I'm more interested in the campaigns themselves and not the contents of the expansions.

For example my group has a terrible time with balance and I want to know which campaign is the best balanced or atleast easiest. So far Rebels lose at the end of every campaign.

Well, balance is a pretty fickle thing.

From what I've heard, avoid the smallboxes if you're looking for balance- hear they're a little tougher on the Rebels.

Return to Hoth and Jabba's Realm are reportedly a little more in Rebel favor than the core box.

I've really enjoyed Jabba's Realm so far (I'm playing as rebels, just one mission and the finale to go).

Balanced is a tricky thing to rate after one playthrough since so much of it depends on player skill, hero choice, imp class deck, dice luck, etc. Mission results have been pretty even so far for what it's worth, but it's hard to say past that.

As for thematic and fun, though? I'd say that Jabba's wins those categories hands down (although Twin Shadows did pretty well with theme as well). There are a lot of missions with more interesting goals than the standard "interact with three terminals" or "pick up this thing and then escape", and even the missions that do use those goals have a lot of fun moving parts (I'd say more but I don't want to spoil anything). As the rebel you also get to make some decisions that have an impact on the way the story progresses, which I found to be a fun change of pace from the other campaigns.

Edit: I'll also add that we've only had one real blowout mission so far, and most have gone down to the wire. In fact there were two other missions where it looked like it was going to be a blowout (one for each side) where the other side ended up coming back to steal it at the last second.

If you're looking for balance then it's Hoth (favors Rebels), core (pretty balanced) or Twin Shadows (favors Imperials.) None of these are without their problems, losing the cantina/junk shop mission in Twin Shadows because of some bad ability rolls is pretty lame, the core has a single spawn point mission that is completely broken as Rebels can camp it and win, but overall they're pretty solid missions.

Jabba's Realm could be called balanced in the sense that some missions massively favor Rebels and some massively favor Imperials. We've played everything in JR now at least once except Onar's mission and one story mission and found only 1 story mission was even close and Vinto and Shyla were tough for the Rebels but doable. Everything else massively favored one side or the other.

Bespin is unplayable. The first mission is fine balance wise although the camera mechanic is really bad, and I think the hero missions are tough but doable, but the rest is complete garbage and not winnable unless the Imperial player intentionally throws.

Take Union's opinions with a grain of salt.

My experience with Bespin Gambit was that the first mission is easy for Rebels once they get through the door, . My previous extended Bespin Gambit campaign went 5-2 to the rebels. The finale was practically over in the first round to two dodges, the rebels needed to just walk to the exit even with the unstoppable big baddie, who come out one round too late to be of help.

I'm starting another now, so I'll see how this one goes.

The stats show that all Bespin Gambit missions are winnable by both sides. See the link for side mission stats and links to campaign stats.

I like the Core campaign the most so far, though I've only played Jabba's Palace once (as Imperial). Jabba's palace was really fun though, but I need at least another playthrough to see if it is as good as the Core campaign.

Take what albert says with a grain of salt, a lot of people don't play campaign to win as imperials but to give the rebels an RPG experience rather than a board game experience and despite this Bespin's statistics there still favor the Imperials far more than any other campaign... Jabba's Realm shows the most inconsistent win rates with missions heavily favoring one side or the other etc. So... very much in line with my experience and what I've said.
