Was playing a game of runewars this afternoon and the following event occured. It seemed very overpowered so we weren't sure we were doing the rules right.

Kari Wraithstalker has a melee attack surge ability:

Melee Attack + Surge : Choose another enemy unit at range 1-5. That enemy suffers 2 damage per surge spent.

For the melee attack the person rolled 3 surges. So they choose another unit at range 1-5 and deal 6 damage to them.

In this case it was Ardus Ix'Erebus who has 3A and 4Hp. Because the damage value is 6, it exceeds the defense score so the wounds occur, and because Ardus only has 4 hp, the 6 damage kills him in one shot.

Is this the correct resolution for her ability? This seems very overpowered or a great hero for sniping small units.

That's not how armor (defense) works. You basically apply damage one at a time. When you meet the armor value, you deal a wound and start all over. So you would apply 3 damage, deal a wound, apply 3 more damage, and deal a second wound. Ardus would only take 2 wounds and have 2 health remaining.

22.1, 1st bullet point: "Each time a figure is assigned an amount of damage equal to its unit’s defense value, that figure suffers one wound."

Damage 6: 3+3 2 wounds on ardus out of 4.

You have to meet his armor value for each wound he suffers. Armor is not a threshold for the damage to go through at all, otherwise we'd have much higher HP values as getting 6 damage is actually REALLY easy.

His armor is 3, so you apply damage until it meets it and he suffers a wound. You then apply damage until you meet his armor again and he takes another wound. In this case, he takes 2 wounds since you exactly meet his armor twice. Had you done 4 damage, the 4th damage would be wasted as it wouldnt meet his armor value.
