What would the meat look like if x-wings were fixed?

By Chief Hugh, in X-Wing

What would the meta look like if T-65's were more competitive? I know I know Biggs is great but when did you last see Wedge or Luke in on T-65 in a highly competitive setting?

The meat would look like this ... Star Barbecue Grill Protects Your Meat From X-Wings In Your Backyard

But seriously though. It's hard to speculate about how a ship fix would effect the entire meta. My best guess is that it would add another pillar to the Rebel meta (much like the Defender fix added a new list type to the imperial meta). My personal suggestions:

I agree with the thought. A repositioning help of some sort is needed and really doesn't make Biggs any nastier.

It depends completely what the fix was.

If it was "When attacking, roll an additional die."... your meta would be X-wings, X-wings everywhere, and little more than arc dodgers to try and evade them and alpha strikers to try and erase them.

If it made them jinky janky arc dodgers, they'd end up being another Rebel Ace. Not gonna lie, Wedge, Luke, and Wes would all love this, but not sure what it'd do beyond that point - Defenders are already beefy targets that get hammered apart, and bombers showed up as much to kill them as the arc dodgers, so maybe it just encourages more arc dodgers, you know?

If it simply comes as a set of rule fixes, changes, or updates that bring bonafide jousting back into the game... well, that could be interesting. But I think we'd need quite a few fiddles in quite a few places before we really saw that, at this point.

I think unique titles are better for X-wing than non unique titles. If I were to give X-wing an action it would be the S-foils, but we need 2nd ed for that.

My idea is a title suite, with a unique Title "Red Leader" that allows for sharing the abilities of friendly titles. As for Networked astromech I think that would be a good title for "Gold Leader". I would like to see a Black Squadron suit too for TIE Fighters, but the question is how do you separate TIE Fighters since TIE/SF and TIE/FO also fit that category. Technically, your T-65B X-wing can go on Blue Squadron Novice.

X-wings will (and should) always be the quintessential jouster. If they were good, it would mean they probably rose in a meta previously filled with big tanky ships with little repositional value like ghosts or upsilon shuttles. Arc-dodgers have always been the bane of X-wings, so they'll still be a counter. They just won't be a hard counter to X-wings. They'd have to have an overwhelming attack power to go toe-to-toe with arc-dodgers, though.

Can't speak for the meta but I do know that 75% of the threads on the front page of the forums would be calling for a T65 nerf.

I proxied x-wings with adaptive ailerons, it was so much fun it left me convinced it was the ideal fix for the ship that didn't make biggs overpowered. They just ended up being REALLY fun to fly.

Worth a go if you have a friendly gaming group willing to try it.

I've always been against S-foil fixes for the X-wing. I feel like it would be super un-thematic to have them opening and closing them al over the place during a dogfight that's only representing a minute or less of 'real' time. I could potentially see an S-foils card that lets you open them on the approach but does not close again to represent 'Lock S-foils in attack position'. Basically a dual sided card that lets you flip it but has no mechanic to flip back.

The squadron titles would be neat, but then you'd have to have a whole bunch of them for all of the fighters. It would almost go from being a title to a new category of upgrade.

The T-65B X-wing title is limited to X-wings with 2 shields or less so a Blue Squadron Novice could not take it.

It would still be a title. It would be just a set of unique X-wing/Y-wing/TIE-Fighter only titles. The Red/Gold/Black Leader would be the linchpin in synergizing the ships in the same squadron.

A list with 2 X-wings wins at Worlds.

People still looking for an X-Wing fix.

Well, here we go again.

Problem with jousting is they pop to easily. Even with IA.
Give them the same as the Concorde Dawn title, but range 1-2.
Sorted.

Depends what the fix looks like.

The T-65 isn't playable at all until it throws 20 dice at people and has a title that turns those dice into crits.

Its true. All of it.

If it was a very bad idea for modified freighters and lightweight fighters to go toe-to-toe with 4 purpose built medium fighters, that would be a pretty okay situation in my book.

There is a thread right now on front page about nerfing biggs

HotAC is the X-wing fix. They are the best ship against the AI.:P

The problem with most T-65 fixes is that they bump the effectiveness of the 65 above the 70 which is lame.

This game represents ships that are not "balanced" of their own accord. Point cost is the factor that brings balance to list building. Biggs should be more expensive with all the other 65s going down in price.

It would look like Arby's:

This.

Problem: modified freighters are the best fighters and weapons platforms.

Problem: "They're coming in to fast!" fighters aren't fast anymore.

Problem: X-Wings aren't the all-purpose go-too fighter that "can" against anything large or small.

Problem: Biggs is the only Jedi in the game.

Problem: This really isn't a classic Star Wars game anymore.

Solution: Make your own rules and fly casual.
