Banzai!

I came to this thread thinking/hoping there was going to be some discussion about how ridiculous the card Banzai itself seems. Pay 1 honour. Get 4 military. Nullify basically every dude in the game. Wot. So yeah, 3 of forever in everything. Game isn't even out yet and people are already going to save their Banzais just to nullify the other guys Banzais. I have a bad feeling about this.

Glad I am not the only one who thinks that Banzai is ridiculously strong.

It breaks almost every province in the game for free. Or, can be used by politic decks to save themselves, and its one of those awful cards whose most solid answer in a lot of cases will be itself. Oh no.

I think it's too early to declare it to be broken. It certainly looks good, but if they print an Event-cancelling Event (like Hand's Judgement in AGOT), then it'll (hopefully) remain under control.

Also you can always "control" (bow/discard/steal/send home?/etc.) the Character that gets buffed...

It will be powerful. That's good. A game need powerful card. With all the opportunities to control characters I doubt it will be too powerful.

And it beeing a neutral card is also a good thing.

Also an honor hit isn't something to ignore either on Banzai. Even a 1 honor loss could hurt. Add in its a military conflict boost only limits the use of the card to half the conflicts anyway.

As long as there are conflict effects that bow or discard personalities, I doubt force pump will be super dominant. Banzai could well be an auto include, but it's hard to know for sure until the cards that will be competing against it for deck slots are available.

Banzai! looks really good, but I think Fine Katana already gives it a run for its money. Banzai lets you spike military conflicts, which is great, but that 1 honor you pay is equivalent to an extra half of a card. Fine Katana doesn't have the spike potential, but it can stick around for multiple turns. Put it on a 1 fate guy and you get the same +4 mil, spread over 2 turns. Not as good, but it didn't cost you that honor point. Even better is when you consider the Water ring, or put it on a Border Rider and now you get that +2 mil over two conflicts this turn.

I think it's rather early to declare that the sky is falling. It looks good, but there are other ways to pump force and bow or discard characters, so I don't see why this would necessarily be game-breaking.

Yeah, I think it will just be a basic military action. I expect to see more like it in future packs. We may also see a similar card for political battles too.

It goes hand in hand with the idea that the lcg is about choices. I would like to see other military actions to compare it to though.

Now that the podcasts are coming out, I keep hearing "Bonsai!". Maybe just my ears @_@

I blame Terry Pratchett.

Quote

"It's part of the ethos," he said, in answer to their penetratingly unspoken question. 'That's what the warriors on the Counter-weight Continent do before they go into battle. And you have to shout -' He tried to remember some far-off reading. "- er, bonsai. Yes. Bonsai!"

"I thought that meant chopping bits off trees to make them small," said the Senior Wrangler.

The Dean hesitated. He wasn't too sure himself, if it came to it. But a good wizard never let uncertainty stand in his way.

"No, it's definitely got to be bonsai," he said. He considered it some more and then brightened up. "On account of it all being part of bushido. Like... small trees. Bush-i-do. Yeah. Makes sense, when you think about it."

I doubt it because of that whole 2 player thing on the product page. Unless they planned on updating it after some article?

I think that refers just to the one core set. Much like Arkham and Destiny are listed as 2 player games but have multiplayer rule sets (and in Arkham's case you can only do it with more than one core, which I imagine would also be the case here - Destiny, obviously doesn't have cores).

And we have our first fan alt art card that needs to be made.

Am I the only one who believes there to be a political card equivalent to Banzai???

"Character gets +2 Politics until the end of the conflict...."

At the the very least a high probability of a neutral card as such.

I think it should be named "Banzai?"

Clearly it should be a bonsai contest concerning artisans.

Then we can alt-art it to courtiers trimming a charging samurai, in a twisted mirror of the card above.

I don't think there will be. It could be part of the difference between military and Politics.

You already punched him in the face, now you want to go rummaging through his pockets? We are samurai! We are better than that. :P

You should read a little story about Kakita Toshimoko called Private Lessons. He would likely approve.
