@Yogo GoheiI only went into the article wanting to see a few new cards. We still have quite a number of weeks till Gencon and many more previews to come. It wouldn't surprise me if duels were explained much later in an appropriate clan article.

Just a hope they will do one! Someone could always ask them to do one, couldn't they? People also need to ask about the Mantis/Spider.

They won't answer about Mantis or Spider.

If the faction is going to be in the core set, they will talk about it. If it has anything to do in an upcoming set, or even won't be in an upcoming set, FFG policy (for all of their games) is a very, very, very strict "no comment". They won't even talk about specifics of what will be in the first deluxe expansion until they get the OK from marketing and administration to do so.

They usually just avoid the question entirely.

FFG is extremely strict over message control and spoilers from their design team. Their NDAs are very strong and very wide. If you haven't heard anything about any other clans going into Friday's talk, you won't get anything out of them.

I wouldn't waste their time, in that case. Ask about the clans we know are in, ask about the research they did for the game -- all those they'll happily talk about at length.

If somebody could try asking about multiplayer, even inasmuch as whether it's going to be a thing, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Perhaps. We'll have to see how deck construction shakes out. But considering we don't have to include holdings in our dynasty deck anymore (and there being characters in the conflict deck) I doubt having a shugenja in play will be all that difficult.

There is also the option of running Seeker of Knowledge in your conflict deck. 1 influence seems like a pretty good deal to add a card with so much versatility.

1. Yes. Playing conflict cards seems to be allowed during the action window (barring cards that explicitly say they must be played at a specific time, of course)

2. In the action window before the conflict, I wouldn't think so since that takes place before the conflict is declared. During the conflict, I don't know. My initial thought was that he would have to participate, but then I realized that you could have characters at home and we have seen no indication that you wouldn't be able to play cards on them, so why not play new characters to home? We'll have to wait and see on this one.

3. I believe it just applies to Conflict cards, barring a card explicitly saying otherwise. Destiny cards have their own timing for being brought into play.

I could see reasons for bringing the Isawa to the field, but I suspect the Phoenix player just wasn't thinking clearly that conflict.

The Scorpion have two Shugenja families..........they might be the #2, but the Crane would be top 3 for sure.

It's not the number of families that counts here, but the number of shugenjas. The difference between the CCG and the world of Rokugan is a good point when we are adressing the LCG.

But I do still think that I recall seriously that in number of shugenjas, the Crane is number 2 behind the Phoenix. Now I have to find where I take this from...

Do you (are you currently) basing your answers and replies through the lens of your previous CCG gaming, or the RPG, or both?

I think this would better help some of us, like myself, to better understand where you're coming from in regards to your thinking.

With Banzai! an Eager Scout could solo an undefended Elemental Fury.

You could use Cloud the Mind on your own Shiba Peacemaker to make him able to attack.

It just occurred to me (unless I'm reading the card wrong) that Isawa Masahiro can burninate characters in political conflicts, too. As cool as that is, it seems like it should probably come with an honor loss...

1) What rules of presence and location? There has been nothing like that mentioned in relation to this game.

That said, we can look at some existing cards and actions to infer things. Shrewd Yasuki's action says that he has to be participating in a conflict. This is in contrast to the Solemn Scholar, whose action says it must be during a conflict. From these we can infer that anyone whose action doesn't specify something, doesn't have any additional requirements. So yes, Masahiro could blow someone up from home.

Another interesting point is the Border Rider card, whose action straightens it. This has no caveats about being able to be used even if bowed, so I again infer that there is normally no requirement for that.

Basically, the only rule appears to be that Actions (and Reactions etc) can only be used once per turn, unless specified otherwise on the card (Wandering Ronin, for example).

The one question I need to have answered is what was previously called Relevance. If I have Masahiro at home, and you have an Agasha Swordsmith at home, during a conflict, both with their actions unused, could I blow up your Swordsmith before he went and mined for a sword?

2) I am 90% sure that duelling will be an article all of its own, so I really wasn't expecting one today.

I feel embarrassed, after all the other examples I pointed out.

I would expect that, at the start of the game, most decks will include a splash of everything, characters from all the families, but as more cards get released there will be more specialized decks that will mostly focus on one family, keyword or strategy in general.

Even then, I suspect this nu5R seems to be more about having your whole clan in the field rather than the old fantasy ("you play a Daimyo of your clan").

BTW, while I'm a Phoenix loyalist, Dragon is looking so much fun and powerful that I'm starting to feel tempted.

Yes, you are correct.

Which fits nicely, imo, with having ties during Conflicts awarded to the winner.
