Speculation on a possible rebel light carrier

By chr335, in Star Wars: Armada

So we have the imperial light carrier coming up what do you guys think, if anything, will the rebels get to push their versatile fighters?

By all rights the MC-75 should be the rebel equivalent albeit a tougher, more expensive version.

Rebels have already the cheapest Carrier... Gr75. Oh, you would want something with weapons team and offensive retrofit? Af2b is your ship then. Too expensive to be a might Carrier, so lets Take away shields, hull, and some firepower? It wont happen, as it wouldnt bring depth or New style at all. Also, lets not forget about the commad cruiser as well.

The GR-75 is a cheap fighter activator but other than BCC and Toryn Farr doesn't have a lot of ability to buff squadrons.

What more buffs do rebel figthers need, really?

Isn't that Yavaris or the Pelta?

I thought the Pelta Command Cruiser fit this role?

I think the Rebels already have several good carrier options as mentioned:

The customizable Swiss army knife: AFII

The activation granting distributed option: a pair of GR-75s

The Cheap double tapping fragile winglass: Yavaris

The snail speed fleet supporter: Pelta command

I really do not miss Carrier options..

LOL, buff rebel fighters? Why?. You have GH, Yavaris, Pelta options. This finally gives the Imperials hopefully something useful for a carrier.

Command Pelta, Raymus Antilles, Expanded hanger bay and All Fighters Follow Me is... 77 points.

This is probably my favourite rebel ship at the moment.

If you run Commander Leia, everything is a carrier.

Yeah the Pelta Command Cruiser is already effectively a Rebel carrier. Escort Nebulons, GR75s, and Assault Frigates can all also fill those roles.

In short, Rebels have already got something that fits the bill.

I wish the Pelta had a Weapons Team on it. That would make it much better. Might be too good with dual officers though.

I want Flight Controllers for Command, and OE for Assault for Sato black dice at long range.

depending on the cost... it could go the way of the interdictor and be 20-30 points more than it's worth lol

Rebels have one of the best carriers (Assault Frigate mk2 B) in the game already. They don't NEED the Quasar or any other carrier at the moment.

Which one? I think the best carrier is the ISD I.

Note I said "One of the best carriers" and that is the Assault Frigate mk2 B. It is cheap for what it can do, durable, has a good support title, and good upgrade slots.

I know what you said, but 3 Rebel carriers have been mentioned in the thread already. I'd agree the AF is the best carrier the Rebels have.

Plus we may be able to jury rig the Hammerhead into a cheaper Flight Controller ship.

I'm thinking Ruthless and Flechette Torps. Auto damage and hopefully activate. You could add EHB to it since it has an Offensive Retrofit based on the upgrades it comes with.

To be fair, the VSD and ISD are good attack carriers by having high fighter rating and a weapons team slot. Thing is, there's just so much out there to deliver damage they can't shed easily. The Quasar Fire doesn't look any better on protecting itself either (in fact, with engineering 2 you can argue it's worse). Best case is the QF will be cheaper than current Imperial carriers for the Fighter rating you'd want to buy, and then you can use the points to bulk up on fighters, Gozantis, and Raiders/Arquitens. Leave medium-large ships behind.

I think the QF will solidify the Demo/Rhymer builds. You have a threatening long range carrier with a close range Demo. That will be the core, and you can add whatever to fit your needs with the remaining points.

We havent seen the title cards yet though which may add to being a better carrier plus a carrier isnt meant to be "in the fight" per say but reach out with its fighters.

I think it's a safe presumption this thing is not going to be near 100 points at a medium base. So now that the QF's spared a bunch of points, you can use them to buy some Lambdas and use your Fighter 4 through two of them for the rest of your fighter ball. The thing's gotta have an offensive retrofit, so Expanded Hangars and a token generator is fighter six (with three lambdas). If it has a weapons team, there's flight controllers. Add Sloane and you have a six fighter alpha strike with +1 blue dice. If you can lock down enemy fighters and prevent them from blowing up your shuttles, you can keep doing that while your QF isn't anywhere near the fighting.
