If power creep is real and FFG mainly buffs - which buffs does it take?

By MaxPower, in X-Wing

Given that FFG is very cautious in nerfing and only nerfs wordings, never raw stats and costs, I find myself wondering which buffs it would take to restore balance, given that there are some pretty big elephants in the room (Jumpmasters, Fenn Rau, Miranda, Defenders) that spit on old ships (Just compare non-Biggs T-65 to TIE/sfs.

So: Which buffs would you like to see to old (pre wave 8) ships?

Just for starters, I'd like to propose a bunch:

TIE/ints: +1 Hull as part of the royal guard title; New title that decreases costs by 2 but hits are dealt as crits.

Justification: compare duchess with lwf and royal guard int.

All TIEs: May equip a "TIE only" mod in addition.

Justification: Slight buff to empire.

TIE/ln: Free Outmaneuver.

Justification: Buffs maneuvering. Might bring back swarms somewhat.

X-Wing: -1 Point; May take a second modification.

Justification: possibility of guidance chips. Also autothrusters plus integrated on t70.

Y-Wing: Title: You may equip torpedos at -2 points. You cannot equip turrets for 6+ points.

J: second role next to tlt

A-Wing: Get a second missile slot (Unguided Rockets - or 2x Prockets - or 1x Prockets + Chardaan)

J: might bring these back. They are seriously behind rau.

Khiraxz: Add Boost and 1 hull for +1 point.

J: compare with xwing with integrated.

TIE Punisher: +2 Hull Title. (Seriously, that monster should have more hull than a mere bomber)

J: Very overcosted, explodes before unloads.

Have you seen the latest FAQ? There were no Buffs about it.

Powercreep is not introduced through buffs and FAQ as much as it is introduced through Accretion. Every wave more and more stuff is released. New ships with different upgrade combinations, new pilots with different abilities and point costs. Even the Aces/Veterans/Heroes pack which comes with "fixes" to older models comes with new upgrades that can be used on just about any other model. However it is sort of a requirement. With each wave the question is the same; how will this change the meta? So if they don't introduce a small amount of power creep, then the ship/pilot/upgrade/wave is considered Dead On Arrival.

Part of the problem with only one format being the dominant method of playing. As much as I dislike Magic the Gathering I would say their commander format is one of the best parts of the game. Slows down the cycling process, has a different meta from standard type 2. Sure FFG has hanger bay but I am not sure it provides enough of a difference in style and play to have a different meta. Lists that do good in competitive also do well in Epic, you just start with that 100 point list and add more and more. Don;t even need a huge ship and odds are a triple meta list will destroy any list with a huge ship. I tried to propose a different format that allowed for some faction mixing HERE, but I can't tell if it would have a different meta from Worlds.

Ehmm... and how does that contradict my idea of buffing older ships to our new level of power? Lets face it: there are some ships that are a lot weaker, relatively, than before. In particular, undeniably, the tie fighter.

Probably got confused with your title. I see what your post is saying but title sets another tone.

Now with those proposals directly again you are mostly talking about adjusting stats and point cost via Pen & Ink changes, which is a precedent not set by FFG, and I think there needs to be some stability in cards other wise why not just go straight to army books and lists? It breaks the business model making any upgrade free for grabs. Also some of the things you put down are well either not given enough detail or too abstract to be an actual proposal. How do you give a free outmaneuver?

Now agreed some older stuff should be buffed. I made a couple of posts not too long ago about using FFG's new precedent on Pen & Ink Erratas to buff older cards that are not performing well. On thread for Upgrades and one thread for (unique) pilots abilities. But again you have to follow the precedent set by the latest FFG FAQ. No stat changes, not point adjustments, no upgrade type changes or other things unless it was an entirely new card.

I don't know a single pilot who wouldn't like a nice bowl of Cocoa Buffs before heading off into combat.

I'm cuckoo for Cocoa Buffs!

I dunno if you buffed a Galactic Civil War era T-65, it would lose all the character of a rag-tag rebel ship. It's the battle scars, mish-mash paint jobs, and grungy look that makes them so cool.

No more buffing. Have new abilities that strip bonuses and rerolls and tokens. Make ships use their stats alone.
