Which units for the Uthuk Y'llan

By Budgernaut, in Runewars Miniatures Game

We've had several discussions about which units the Uthuk Y'llan will get for their army box. Recently, I was looking at the Essentials Pack and realized that the top picture is the core image, the bottom left picture is the Latari Elves Army Expansion image, and that means that the lower right one is likely the artwork for the Uhtuk Y'llan Army Expansion. Since we can see Deepwood Archers, Leonx Riders, and Aymhelin Scions on the Latari Elves Army Expansion box, maybe we can see some units for the Uthuk Y'llan Army Expansion based on its picture on the Essentials Pack.

Now, there are some things that are just difficult to make out. For example, there is some unit behind Ravos that is wielding a sickle/scythe. It looks like the same weapon Berserkers used in Runewars (boardgame), so it could be (and probably is) a Berserker, but it could also be an Obscene. The REAL find was just beneath Ravos. If you look closely, you can see a pair of Flesh Rippers racing forward. So it seems that the Uhtuk will be getting Flesh Rippers in their starting army and they'll likely be cavalry. It'll be our first unmounted cavalry unit for Runewars. I'm pretty excited about this!

God, I love Fleshrippers. I hope we see different breeds, given the ones in BL were "Brutes"

Uthuk Y'llan units I want to see:

1. Chaos Lord! -> Expensive but top siege unit (not like the useless Rune Golem xD)

2. Obscenes -> Elite infantry with some cannibal ability

3. Fleshrippers --> Badass cavalry

4. Ravos -> Tank heroe

5. Doombringer --> Siege with a dig ability to avoid terrain

6. Others

I don't know if I would count too much on art to tell you what will be in the initial wave of Uthuk stuff. If you look around there's art for and mentions of many things that weren't in the initial armies for Daqan, Waiqar, and Latari. I think that means you'll probably see all those things at some point, but probably not all of them right away. That being said, I agree that Ravos is probably the first Uthuk hero (or at least the second one in their expansion 'wave'). I think you'll get fleshrippers, berserkers, and chaos lords as the army box units. I was thinking chaos lords could be a future multi-tray unit, but the only other option for a siege unit is the obscene I think and I just don't see them doing the obscene and ravos in the same 'core' box.

I think that's true about art in general, but the two other art pieces on the Essentials pack are used on products for the other three starter armies. I see no reason to believe they would use a piece of Uthuk art on that box if it weren't the army box art.

I hadn't realized that correlation in the essentials box art. You're probably right.

Ravos looks like the boogey man from the nightmare before x mas haha

I'm not sure how much we should go off of battlelore, but it wouldn't surprise me if the Obscenes were the siege unit instead of infantry. They were (IIRC) comparable to rune golems in Battlelore, and I feel like making the Chaos Lord rune golem/carrion lancer sized in this game would make him too small (just like making obscenes fit 4 to a base would make them too small)

Not sure on this, but the elite rune golems unit in battlelore seems to be a sort of lesser sub-type of tune golem. This was never stated but in both descent 1st ed (pre-battlelore 2nd ed) and in this game (post-battlelore 2nd ed) the rune golems are generally shown being huge with four arms.

You could still be right, but I just thought it was relevant to point out that battlelore 2nd edition seems to be the only game with that variant of rune golem. That said, there are a lot of games out there, so I may just be missing the other instances.

Fair enough. Scale also appears to be out of whack in battlelore, so probably not the best model to go off of.

I think it's interesting that the hero and the siege model are likely to be one and the same in the Uthuk starter. With the Latari, we got a cav hero and a ranged 4-Tray block.

My bet is that we get: Ravos, 2 trays of flesh rippers, 4 trays of the scythe dudes whose name is escaping me at the moment, and a support unit of ????

I also hope that a potential Chaos Lord will be bigger than the current Siege units. In fact, I hope for 4 x current Siege unit tray size. A Barrow wyrm for the undead, a Siege Golem for Daqan and maybe a bigger Treeman for the Elves (or an Earth Elemental) of equal size.

Regarding potential Siege units for uthuk i think Grotesques (I hope this is the correct English translation, it was an elite unit in battlelore with oversized demon arm) could also be a possible pick.

Scythe dudes were called blood harvesters in BL2e. The lore book mentions berserkers though, so regardless of how they look, I think berserkers is the more likely name for them.

Oh, so get this. In Runewars board game, the dudes with the single large scythe were called Berserkers, but in BattleLore 2E, they were called Blood Harvesters. Then BL2E released a new unit called Berserkers, and they had a mini-scythe in each hand. Well it turns out that there was a unit in Diskwars called a Blood Harvester that had two, single-handed scythes. So BattleLore completely flipped the names for Blood Harvesters and Berserkers. I thought it was interesting.

Oh that's right! Maybe they'll switch it up again and just call them "Violent Blade Choppy-Guys" this time around :D
