Bola/Net Retrieval

By Mattimeo84, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Simply put, when a character throws a bola/net, is there any rules regarding or governing retrieving that weapon?

I reread through limited ammo and it makes sense with regards to grenades that you cannot pick them up again. They've already exploded. But a bola/net doesn't explode on impact. Does the bola/net just sit there after the encounter, ignored and forgotten? Is it able to be picked up?

Not getting into failures, disadvantage, or despair here; I also understand that the GM can do whatever they want with regards to the story and how they play. I'm just curious is there any guidance from the source on how to handle this.

Later books take to clarifying that a thrown weapon can be retrieved. I think it's just a matter of not thinking about it so not including it. I don't see any problem with retrieving them.

Just go pick it up using requisite Maneuvers for doing so.

Do you per chance know the reference? Just want to read up in my down time.

I know it can be done, just curious if there is precedent.

The thrown weapons from Nexus of Power (boomerang, several spears) and Forged in Battle (Kyuzo war shield).

Perfect! We only play EotE currently, so that's why I couldn't find any references for it. Thank you!

why do you need a reference for picking up something lying on the ground?

The book states limited ammo must be reloaded to be used again. Book also states that grenades are used and must be redrawn. Rules as written don't allow for Bola to be picked up. Was looking to see if this was amended.

I would say have your PC describe how they want their's to be represented and let common sense be your guide in regards to whether it is used up on each application.

If you are trying to convince a GM who is being a bit anal about the RAW, you might suggest that they could always spend threat to prevent you from retrieving it, either because it broke, was damaged or was lost in some other way.

Common sense dictates how one treat throw-able objects. They can be reteived (unless the GM rules that all of them break on contact with the target, which is a little weird.) provided you have the action ecomany to collect them then they should be collectable. The GM might use threat to dictate they break or are lost, but given their nature they should largely be reuseable. Especially things like Bolas. Nets can be a little different as people can rip their way out of those, but I would only have it rip if they were fairly successful/had methods to do just that.

Those two statements aren't together. Reloading a net/bola means you've gotten another one somehow and reset it for use (i.e. you've picked up the net, folded it back up and are now ready to use it). Nothing in the main rule says they are consumed. Also, this isn't D&D where there are rules for every thing and everything has a rule. Common sense drives most of the game.
