How frequently do you play IA Campaign?

By totalnoob, in Imperial Assault Campaign

I know this is going to get an imprecise response, since people on these forums represent more of the hard core fans of this game - but thats ok. I am curious for you Campaign Folks, how frequently you get together and play? Also wondering how long you have been playing IA - I know many on here have been playing since it first came out. For the long timers - do you usually just play the latest expansion when its out - then take a break until the next one? (FFG seems to be releasing quite a bit, so that schedule would still keep you pretty busy I guess, and still feel like you got your $50+ worth on the expansion)

Right now, my family is kind of obsessed with our second run through of the Core Campaign - and we have been playing for a few hours in the evening - probably two to three times a week. Maybe an additional session or two if the weather is lousy on the weekend. :)

We are new to the IA world, but already feel like I've got my $80 worth on the core purchase. (Well, and a few more $$ on some cool figures, um and I did drop $50 in AMZN credits for a broken token organizer, oh some more for some card sleeves - sheesh I think I have a problem!) :D

Hi there.

i have two groups running at the moment. one group have just finished their return to Hoth campaign, we played fortnightly on a friday evening/Saturday day into evening or Sunday day. they are taking a break until jabbas realm.

Group one has palyed: core, twin shadows, and return to hoth

the other group are currently playing through jabbas realm. we play infrequently, once a month maybe.

Group two has played: core campaign X 2, twin shadows, return to hoth and currently doing Jabbas realm.

I have played the core campaign 4 times, twin shadows mini campaign about 4 times aswell. 2 groups didn't continue onto other campaigns. played return to hoth twice and jabbas realm is currently in progress.

one of my players, bought me Bespin gambit as a gift for organising the games. and im currently painting the figures ready for play.

a bit of a break between campaigns is good. i find never going over 3 missions in a session a good idea as well. sometimes people can get bogged down in surges and maths and deployments.

I'm on my second group playing IA Campaigns

(My first completed Core and Twin Shadows before I moved hemispheres)

My second group have completed Core, and almost done with Twin Shadows.

We currently meet about once a month, and get about two missions done each sitting.

With this pace I feel that jumping on to the next expansion the month after is enough of a wait to let minds recover...

I've so far only played the tutorial, Aftermath and the mission were you get Han Solo as you're ally if the rebels scums win (They did, I'm the IP)

This is our first campaign ever (and no skirmish either.) We were going to play once a month at least but we've been playing 9th age instead and I don't like to play with unpainted models so we've decided to start over and get another player in or at least use four heroes instead of this double activation thing when you play less than that.

playing our 3rd campaign - Return to Hoth. We've completed the core campaign and Twin Shadows mini. We've got 11 folks involved (life does happen).

We play twice a week, 3-4 missions per week. We've mixed in a few skirmish nights, too.

Personally have been playing since December with family. Playing at our FLGS since end of March (Meeple Madness, Buford, GA)

2 times a week with the same group for almost 2 years now. I still have only the base game and twin shadows(and 7 or so packs). We played the base campaign 7 times now and we are on the 8th run. I have been the Imperial all along... :P

Since it came out, at about once a month between several groups, sometimes twice, sometimes less.

I've played the core campaign twice completely, and started it several times trying to introduce new players. I've played Twin Shadows once, and we're on the second last mission of Return to Hoth but haven't played in several months because of scheduling conflicts.

Going off of my campaigns that I've played:

Core

A) Finished. Myself, my wife. Played 1-2 missions at a time, sporadically, from about May to August last year.

B) Finished. Myself, my wife, a friend. Played 2-3 missions at a time, from December last year to early January of this year.

C) Ongoing. Myself, my wife, 2 of my siblings. Play 2-4 missions every weekend I visit, started in March of this year.

Hoth

A) Abandoned. Myself, friend from Core B, my wife, two new friends. Played two missions one night. New players never returned.

B) Pending. Myself, my wife, friend from Core B. Starting a new Hoth campaign soon. Probably will follow similar schedule as Core B. Then, it's on to Jabba's Realm, hopefully in time for Heart of the Empire

My favorite group is Core/Hoth B. Fun people, we play fast turns and get through campaigns quickly. They thumped me pretty good in core, but I'm ready to give them an Empire striking back at Hoth.

Our league is playing campaign every week. Skirmish till 6:30, campaign from 7 to 9. And it's not often enough...

my group plays somewhere between 0 and 3 times a week usually one. we have only finished one campaign and two halves. we have only played core but are about to play hoth soon.

My group, which has had a steady 3 rebel players + Imp (me) play once a week. We played the core campaign last winter (2015-2016) and this winter we've marched through TS, RtH, are currently mid-BG. We might roll right into Jabba's realm right after BG but the weather is starting to get pretty nice in the evenings around here:) Generally, we've generally played 1 mission a week but we actually knocked out TS in three consecutive nights.

I've been into the game since October or November. My group meets about twice a month, though sometimes less. There was a learning curve, but we've settled into a pace where we finish about two missions per session. We've finished the Core Campaign and are in the middle of TS, but we play with a lot of House Rules. All campaigns tend to run much longer (14-18 missions), rewards per mission are less, and there is more emphasis on character development. It makes for less replay value, but even at this pace we've still got a year and a half worth of missions to play, and I know that no one in my crew wants to do Desperate Hour again.

I started playing in late 2015 and I've played three full core campaigns, one twin shadows, one Hoth, one Bespin and now starting JR. In between those sessions I've also ran other groups through a few mini-mini campaigns, where I pick 2 missions with 2 possible end missions and build a very small condensed, but very loose, campaign we can finish in one session. With this group I often speed things up by altering some objectives or deployments. The goal is to finish it in one session as this group doesn't like extended play. It's actually a great source for me to use all of the Agenda and Side missions that never see play in campaign and get to experience ALL of the IA content. I just throw in some filler text and these guys are good about it maybe not being totally thematic or making sense why we went from Hoth to fight Greedo in the same 'campaign'.

But for full campaigns.. I am older, wife, kids, a demanding career that ironically allows me free time during the day to post but has outside pressures that can occupy my 'free' time. When I work, I work hard and long hours to complete specific tasks. So this can make it hard to schedule around. All of my friends are in the same boat being high level professionals who run their kids sports teams.. so our campaigns take a long time, sometimes it can be a month between sessions. I supplement this with skirmish play, casual and friendly tournament, that I host and organize at my LGS. And I also like to paint the minis at home when I have the very odd spare few hours to do so. All of this combined with my presence here on this forum is still not enough to get my IA fix, such a great game :)

One thing I wish that IA did better that Gloomhaven seems to have nailed is scaling the number of people that can attend. It can be very difficult for me to get all five together so we often play with less, now what can happen is just taking over the other guys character, but this can be very awkward and challenging especially in the late game. There is so much going on and so many moving parts I find that people playing multiple toons can slow down the campaign and really hurt their chances of winning. It would be nice if there was a way to just take a character out for that session. You can't really rely on just using an extra activation token mid campaign because you've invested credits into that character that won't be represented now on the board.
