Location link in Blood on the Altar

By Sparviero, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

I played this scenario last night and I just noticed that Village Commons is linked to Osborn's General Store, while the general store itself is not linked to it, and also Congregational Church is linked to Village Commons while the center of the town is not linked back to the church.

Any particular reason? I can walk to the general store from the center but i can't come back? Sounds weird to me, it seems that is easier to navigate in the Arkham Woods than in Dunwich :D

Maybe a misprint?

THANKS!

I believe it's deliberately confusing

Some connections are one-way, yes. I assume it is intentional, but once it's in the wild, it doesn't matter.

Consider it foreshadowing for weird dimension warping stuff in the next few packs. :)

Sure thing... anyway I expected that it should be harder to navigate in a cursed wood than in an infested small town... but, actually, I've never been either in cursed woods/infested town so... :D

THANKS

Think of it as being unfamiliar with a small town so you have a hard time navigating. For game balance purposes I'm fairly sure its to force you through more locations as you explore the town.

I got confused about this as well after playing BOTA for the first time yesterday, and actually ended up incorrectly assuming there was a printing error.

Just for future reference, here is a link to a similar discussion on BGG with a quote from Matt that confirms that this is NOT a printing error.

The last scenario of the campaign has a similar confusing location layout that is vital to navigate for the success of the scenario. I doubt the one-way pathing is an error. It's just tricksy.

Wait a minute. There are actual one way connections? We always assumed that connections go in either direction

Over 10 playthroughs and still not playing the game right ?

Afraid so. The icons at the bottom of a location tell you which locations you can move to. If you're on a Blue Triangle that has a Red Square at the bottom, but the Red Square doesn't have a Blue Triangle on its bottom, it's one way.

On Boardgamegeek i saw somebody making location connectors the same size as chaos tokens for coin capsules. This guy made the same amount of one way and two way markers and i thought to myself "why would he do that?" ...

I am still flabbergasted, haha

I just got some craft store popsicle sticks and put arrows on one side of all of them so I can use each one for either two way or one way indicators.

Thematically, it's as though you've climbed over a decrepit wall from inside a building. You get to the top and slide down. Now, you can't get back up the wall. Shrugging it off, you press forward, knowing that you cannot go back. If an attacker comes at you, you're options don't allow you to go backward - you're back really is against a wall. You better prepare yourself.

I dont have a problem with the thematics. On the contrary. I just was not aware of the fact that such connections existed. We always assumed that the missing icon was an error (since there are many errors in the german translated version) ...

Card templates are unmodified by translation. And they include connection symbols.
