I'm also considering Rey or Kyle Katarn on Norra's crew. I picked the Shield Upgrade to sweeten the pot for regen. Normally I fly Norra with Engine Upgrade, but I figure a boost won't get as much use in a list that depends on formation.
Jess/Biggs and ??? (inspired by Nand's Worlds list)
I ran this list (first one) against a defender/deci list (second one). This made me a believer in late game Norra. I'd only flown her a few times, lop-sided wins or losses. I set up in a formation on the bottom right, he set up with RAC in the middle with a line straight through the rocks, Rexler on my top left. I flew in as aggressively as I could toward RAC, while RAC chugged slowly forward and Rexler banked in. No combat the first round.
The second round saw me creep forward, with Jess and Norra leading Biggs. RAC crept forward one and Rexler crept up along side him, straight toward me. Only RAC had a shot, which took a single shield off Biggs. Norra tore off 3 shields off RAC, Biggs completely whiffed, Jess tore off the last shield from RAC and added a crit (Stunned Pilot) with her primary.
Round three saw some blocking. I basically put Jess, Biggs and Norra in a line in front of RAC so he was forced to just bump into Jess, causing a damage from Stunned Pilot. That caused Rexler to bump into the back of RAC. Biggs was reduced to 1 hull and an ejected R4-D6 by RAC. Rexler didn't have a shot on Biggs, so took all of Norra's shields off (!!!!). Some more damage was put on RAC and Jess had a great shot on Rexler, against which he got 3 natural evades (boo).
Things get a little hazy now. I'm pretty sure Jess t-rolled to the left, in front of Norra, Biggs just went 2 forward and Norra went 2 straight. RAC went 4 forward and I think Rexler turned towards Norra and Jess. I'm not entirely sure. I do know RAC killed Biggs before he shot, Rexler tractor beamed Norra onto a rock (no shot!) and put a crit on her (Major Hull Breach). Jess put some more damage on RAC, but he survived at 2 hull remaining. I feel I hosed up this turn. I probably could (and should) have gotten a block on RAC with Biggs to cause at least one more damage from his crit. Had I done that, Jess (who dies soon), might have survived because RAC would have been off the board one turn earlier.
The maneuvers continue to be hazy. Ultimately Jess rolled like garbage with her evade dice and blew up in one round of focus fire. I had to dump M9-G8 to avoid being tractor beamed out of arc and onto a rock. Then shields where gone from Rexler's primary, RAC got through a hit and crit, which was a Direct Hit. I don't think dumping M9-G8 was a mistake, I think it was the right thing to do. If Jess would have rolled just 1 evade (out of 6 total rolls) or not gotten a Direct Hit (or Blinded Pilot), then she would have had a shot on RAC and probably would have killed him (range 1, plus a TL)....he was at 1 health.
With only Norra left, at 5 hull and 1 shield against 1-hull RAC and a full Rexler, I'll admit I thought it was over. They both would probably get shots next turn and even after regening one more shield, I was in a bad position. I was on the left side of the board, pointing northwest(ish) and about range 2 from the edge of the board. I was also stressed from the last turn, since I'd been PtLing pretty much every turn (cuz that's what you do with PtL/Kyle Norra, right?....maybe not) Rexler was at my 4 or 5 o'clock, RAC was on my six. Both were probably about range 2.5 from me.
If I took a 1 or 2 bank, I knew I'd have a shot with the rear arc, but probably would have died first to their focus fire. So...I 2-turned to the left. This meant I didn't get any sort of action or tokens, since I was already stress and couldn't remove my current stress, and was also pretty close to the edge of the board and pointing southwest. Rexler ended up with a nice range 2 shot, but RAC bumped into Norra....AND BLEW UP DUE TO THE STUNNED PILOT CRIT!!! Rejoice! I'd like to pretend I meant to do that, but I didn't. He did a 3-bank with RAC, aggressively going after Norra. I thought he'd slow roll with a 1-forward to avoid any chance at a bump (could have bumped Rexler, too), which meant he'd have come up short of bumping Norra and had a range-1 shot.
I still felt I was in a bad spot. Rexler tractor-beamed me, trying to set up an inevitable situation where all I could was fly off the board. He thought even a maneuver template off the board counts as off the board, which likely impacted his play, but probably not the end result. Ultimately, I managed to stay on the mat and time expired with Norra at 3-shields, 4-hull, Rexler at 2-shields, full hull. Norra wins at 41 points to Rexler's 39!!
I think there's a ton of potential in this list. I didn't fly terrible, but I didn't fly great, either. I never got the Plasma Torps off and probably could have kept Jess alive just a bit longer so it was her and Norra against Rexler. I also put Norra in a terrible position after RAC went down, because I kept having to 2-turn to stay on the mat, while having a stress, which meant I was without actions for a good 3 turns. I'm going to run this a few more times and see how things go. PtL/Kyle is a beast, but needs to be managed properly and with forward round thought. I also still want to try my Heff/Norra/Biggs list because I think it might have actually rolled this game fairly easily.
