Commonly Made Mistakes

For me, having a "neutral" state to return to once a character is honored/dishonored doesn't make sense. Both from a rules perspective and from a fluff one.

Having to hit a character with two separate instances of honored/dishonored once they reach one of two states feels way off, especially if the game length average is 3-6 rounds.

While FFG can of course do whatever they want with the fluff, it doesn't really make sense to have an honorable person who commits a dishonorable act and NOT become dishonorable.

This is why I think there won't be a neutral state to return to once a character becomes honored or dishonored.

No sources, only gut feels tell me this is likely. We will see. Probably tomorrow.

I don't think it'll be the norm (that is, I think Honoring/Dishonoring a character will move them straight to the specified state), but I could see an occasional card perhaps returning someone to a Neutral state explicitly. Maybe something like:

Forgotten Deeds

Remove an Honored or Dishonored token from a character not participating in the conflict.

Again, I don't think this will be the normal state of things, but just saying that I also don't think we can necessarily say that a character will never again be Neutral once leaving that state.

We don't have any confirmed source of the track for honored-neutral-dishonored, so I'm not adding it. Many of us assumed honor loss/gain equal to Glory, and that turned out not to be the case, so I really only want things that we can clear up with relative certainty on my list. I'm not going to muddy the waters by adding an opinion, hope, or guess. I just don't know.

Back on topic:

Another mistake I have seen a bunch of places: The "Province Strength Boost" on your stronghold only applies to the Province containing the stronghold. It is NOT a blanket bonus across all of your Provinces.

This is a really good catch, and based on the past game might be an easy assumption to make. Let me go through and find a direct quote so I can add it.

I can't think of a direct quote but holdings have the same stat. So I think it's easy to infer its localized.

Doesn't matter though need that sweet sweet source

From "Crafting a Dynasty", the text under the preview stronghold.

"Strongholds give you vital information like the amount of honor a player starts with, how much fate they receive each turn, any strength bonus added to the province it is attached to, and how much influence can be included in its associated conflict deck."

Well, when we come to commonly made mistakes there's also the Classic Blunders of course:

  • Never get involved in a land war in Asia
  • Never go up against a Sicilian when death is on the line

If anyone has anything new except for confirmation of the honored-neutral-dishonored track, please post here or PM me. Don't forget to have a source or at least where to start looking for one.

You'll be fine as long as you aren't a sitting emperor or a Kolat.

In the last news post from ffg "Bonzai", they lay out that if an honored character is dishonored they return to a neutral state. With that being shown it is reasonable to presume that if a dishonored character is honored, they return to a neutral state as well.

I actually added that to the original post. I was glad we got good confirmation of that.
