Round 1 CC

A new CC is starting up at my local store, there will be 6 players and I have taken on the role of 'defender' for my team. Always volunteer to defend from the imperial assault and just hold it's own with the planetary ION cannon. Thoughts? Remember this is for a starting list, 1 upgrade only per ship at 400 pts.

Assault Frigate Mark II A (81 points)
- Gunnery Team ( 7 points)
= 88 total ship cost

MC30c Scout Frigate (69 points)
- Ordnance Experts ( 4 points)
= 73 total ship cost

CR90 Corvette B (39 points)
- Overload Pulse ( 8 points)
= 47 total ship cost

3 A-Wing Squadrons ( 33 points)

How do you intend to defend show of force? Physically driving onto stations?

To be fair, I havn't seen a way for the Rebels to mount an active defense of the Stations. ever.

I mean, to do so, you're basically jumping in front of Star Destroyers....

I dont like the idea to make a list against a special mission.

If you say you are defending against the first imperial assault, there are still 3 attacks that can be done.

  • Show the Force
  • Base Assault
  • Normal Attack (using your missions)

If you are saying you are using planetary Ion Cannon for the base defense, you are lacking the most important for it. The VCX. As soon as the imperial player has a shuttle, it can be that your ion cannons are not doing any damage. And even without a shuttle on his side, he can just stay out of the range of the ion cannon tokens. And you risk to loose the mission in this case, because you gave up the bonus from the base defense.
From my point of view the Station Defense mission would be way better for your list.

During "Show the force" on the other hand, you have to balance between sacrifice of a ship, 40 resource points from the stations (that you cannot even get) and the 40 resource points for winning.
It does not help when you are protecting the stations with your ships, but loose the ships in this way and on top loosing the mission. And worst of this, you are not even gaining resource points when you protect the stations. So you loose the ships (and have to repair them), only to deny your opponent 40 or 80 ressource points. But you might have to go scared into the next fight.
As rebel it is way more important to win the fight over protecting the stations (hard to say, but true). Do not lose to many ships and try to win the fight for show the force.

Coming to the next part. The squadrons. If you are defending, squadrons are important for it (imo). I don't know your Meta in the group. But if the attacker is coming with squadrons, he can just win each fight only with these. Your 3 A-Wings will not really help you.
Dont forget: you do not have to win high in the CC, you just have to win. And squadrons can do this job really well. Especially if there is no defense against them (and 3 A-Wings are no defense).
And he is always player 1. So he can go in first with his squadrons.

And i would think about some uniques instead of generics. You can get Veteran with the uniques.
Green Squadron for example. It cost only 1 point more to buy, but the same for repair. And you have the bonus of being able to become Veteran.
And the uniques can last longer (if they have the defense tokens). So the repair cost is less with these, compared to two generic squadrons.

One last point: The CR90 B is really wasted with Ackbar. You can only add the red dice when you are at medium range. The CR 90 A is way better for this commander.
If you really want to keep the 4 ships, it would be possible to reduce the Mark II to a B instead of A, and upgrade the CR90 to a A instead of B.
