TIE/D, Tomax, Deathfire

By Smudger13, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi all, thoughts on the following list would be greatly appreciated. Trying hard to make a bomber centric list.

Rexlar Brath w/ Predator, TIE D, Tractor Beam 41 pts

Tomax Bren w/ Homing Missile, guidance chips, extra munitions, crack shot 32 pts

Deathfire w/ LRS, concussion missile, conner net, extra munitions

Rexlar is my choice because at PS8 he can take predator for rerolls and still fire before Tomax to reduce agility and carry out tractor beam shenanigans. I've played one Vassal game with it and bullied Miranda with the tractor beam. Any tips would be appreciated!

It works better with a TIE/sf with Targetting Synchroniser and Fire Control System.

Yep, I recently won a small tournament using that combo. A LOT of my opponents moaned about targeting synchroniser - it seems like a little understood card and people are still questioning the FAQ. I'm looking for a similar effect without the confusion. I agree though that it provides a big boost to the bomber as a way of providing action economy.

Might sound like a jerk thing to say, but I wouldn't change my list just because they're confused. Lol.

Fair point! I was flying Backdraft with FCS + targeting synch. It wrecked face, most of the guys at the tournament seemed very unprepared for the accuracy of Tomax's shots. But, there was a lot of deliberating, re-reading the cards and FAQ etc about spending it on primary attack rerolls. I really did not enjoy that and the sense of scepticism. It is a very effective synergy, however.

I like your list. The tractor can both reduce evade dice for better damage and draw ships into the fire arc of the other ships. So I think it is better than a list with Backdraft. I would suggest you try it out

Im thinking if you want to go more bomber sentric you could replace tomax with a deathrain and have proxy and clusters which paired with the tractor beam and net could ruin someones day in or out of an astroid field.

THis is why I like sf Tomax Deathfire with Tomax and Deathfire both having Homing Missiles. THere's absolutely no question of whether that works to fire both homers, and hopefully you don't need to spend it for the rerolls (and Tomax can't if you want DF to fire).

I would be tempted to run VI Vessery instead of Brath as your Defender. Free Target locks are more effective than Predator since he has 2 wingmen to spot for him and he comes out 4 points cheaper which could be used to give you a little extra ordnance.

37 Colonel Vessery (35), VI (1), TIE/D (0), Tractor Beam (1)
35 Tomax Bren (24) Homing Missile (5), Plasma Torpedoe (3), guidance chips (0), extra munitions (2), crack shot (1)
28 Deathfire (17) LRS (0), Homing Missile (5), conner net (4), extra munitions (2)
100 Points

If you;'re going to put two shooty ordnance on Tomax you really want one of them to be Clusters. The chances of him firing off four range 2-3 munitions are really, really low, but two range 2-3 and 2 range 1-2 are a bit less impossible.

Personally though I'd probably drop the plasmas entirely and look at a bit of bid and mk2 on Vess.

Can you explain this? The way I read the card, you can use the attack header as attack, so for secondary weapons, you can use the lock in place as the pay to play cost to fire the shot. With Homing, it stays ofcourse.

But I didn't take this as possible for primary attacks, am I missing it?

Q: What are examples of game effects that instruct a player to spend a target lock?

A: The cost for a secondary weapon such as Proton Torpedoes, using pilot abilities like Lieutenant Colzet, or spending a target lock during the "Modify Attack Dice" step to reroll attack dice are all examples of spending a target lock. Removing a target lock or assigning a blue target lock token to another ship are not examples of spending a target lock.

Bold/italics added.

There was a big debate about this... I thought like you... but we were the losing side

Interesting. So spending it on a primary could lose the target lock, but if it's the last ship in fire it could be worth it.

I guess this is something to have handy during playing.

Thanks for the clarification, I appreciate it.

Sorry, but one follow up question.

Above excerpt mentions Colzet. What about advanced targeting computer?

I SF has lock ad targeting synchronizer, when tie advanced attacks, does it get the use of Advanced targeting computer?

No, you don't spend your target lock with Advanced Targeting Computer; you can't spend the target lock if you want to benefit from it. With Colzet you spend the target lock to trigger his ability.

Perfect. Makes sense. Thank you again.
